Title: wheel clampers
Post by: Luke1981 on 21 February 2012, 13:58
Got a phone call from the wife in floods of tears saying she has just been clamped! She parked in a private car park so she could pick someone's dog up and take it to the vets!

The clamper watched her park up and the clamp was on by the time she got out.
I got the release fee in 5 pence coins, 80 quids worth and now he is refusing to take it.

As I write this I am in a Mexican standoff with the bloke and I have got all day to wait!

Fuming!

Its legal currency so the cnut cant refuse it. I would be swinging him around by his ears then cutting the clamp off with an angle grider and violently inserting said bag of 5 pence pieces somewhere dark and smelly

just paid the fooking fatherless son £80 quid after keeping him waiting for 2 hours!

The predatory sh!t house was probably thinking " ahh there is a single female who is easy prey for me "

I tried to take the clamp off but he wrapped the chain around the drive shaft and I didn't have an angle grinder or bolt crops handy.

I sincerely hope he is involved in a fatal crash on the way home.

f**k that sh!t! Completely illegal

Thats what I initially thought, but apparently not when private land is involved!

I would have it if the mrs parked her van in someones parking bay and buggered off to the shops for an hour, but she parked in the dog owners bay for less than 5 minutes.

Felt like a useless cnut as all I wanted to do was fill him in, but I would end up nicked and out of a job!

These cowboys know exactly what they can and cant get away with.

Talk about pants down over a barrel!

Buy a Roxy kit they work a treat on any chain clamp (Shooo) five minutes you're gone!
£80 not bad, I've been done £350 @ 1.50am, but mine was towed away impounded, no time for blow torches
Had a ticket aswell but in wrong bay marked K instead of H tricky father less sons!

The sign said "All vehicles must display a residents pass "

What type of bloke stands there and watches someone cry and plead with them to use discretion?

Take lots of pics of the signage, car position and the clamper.

Can you post them up here.

Save me typing it all out, but if your on your mobile, here are some points:

When you pay to have your vehicle released, the wheel-clamper must provide
a receipt which includes the following information
:

 the place where the vehicle was clamped
 their name and signature
 their SIA licence number (a 15 digit number on the front of their licence)
 the date.

Licensed wheel-clampers should also wear their SIA licence where you can
see it at all times when they are working. You can check whether someone
has a valid SIA licence by looking on a public register of licences on the SIA
website at www.the-sia.org.uk, or from the SIA call centre on 0844 892 1025.

http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/index/t_wheel-clamping_on_private_land.pdf

What to do if you are clamped

If you are clamped:
 keep calm, don't lose your temper or attempt to remove a wheelclamp - you could be sued for criminal damage if you damage the
wheel-clamp. You could be also prosecuted for theft if you keep the
clamp
 contact the telephone number shown and ask for release
 check whether warning signs and boundaries are clear enough. You
could also take a photograph to use as evidence later on

 ask the wheel-clamper who they work for, and whether the
landowner's authority can be produced

 you have the right as a clamped motorist to see their SIA licence if
they are asking for a fee to release the vehicle

 if you don't think a wheel-clamper is licensed , don't pay the release
fee. If they refuse to release your vehicle without a fee, call the police
An unlicensed wheel-clamper who asks for a fee is committing a
criminal offence You can report unlicensed wheel-clampers to the SIA

 if the wheel-clamper uses threatening or intimidating behaviour, you
should report this to the police

 if the wheel-clamper is licensed, you will have to pay the release fee,
but insist on a receipt. Try to get the address and phone number at
which the wheel-clamper can be contacted

 if you think you should not have been clamped, for example because
the warning notices were inadequate, or the release fee was too high,
the only way to get your money back may be through the courts. A
solicitor will be able to advise you on what chance you have of
winning your case.

He had all the relevant SIA paperwork and badge and this was endorsed on the receipt. Thanks for the advice though.

Legalised bully boys, hopefully not for much longer!

This practice should of been outlawed years ago

I don't think it needs to be outlawed, just better regulated.

Say If you are paying 1k a year for a private parking space and you are turning up at home everyday to find someone in your spot and nothing that you do seems to help then a financial threat on the illegal parkers is ideal with correct signage and following precedure. The problem lies with cases such as this topic, where the actual user of the space doesn't want to prosecute but can do nothing about it as the clamping company are operating on behalf of their own company, not the client.

Better regulation would help, at the moment the clamper can effectively charge what they like.
I'd still prefer a complete ban, i suspect most would agree, as we already have in Scotland.

I agree completely, if they are not going to be outlawed then regulation is needed. I would prefer the councils to take over the clamping if they are to stay, at least my 80 quid will not be lining the pockets of some greasy wide boy executive.

Clamp his car.

Exactly, where has he parked?  :lipsrsealed: The clamps are about £20-£30 on ebay, my boss has looked into getting a couple because c#nts keeps using our parking bays at work and even blocking us in when we need to leave, making us late for appointments with clients.

go unbolt a wheel from his car and leave him with a brick purely for being an unsympathetic inconsiderate p**ck to your partner. no need for that at all

on the flip side ive played the 5p trick at work when someone refused to accept that they weren't short changed. made me feel a little better.
