Thought I would put up a little progress blog for my MK3 now. Progress is slow due to financial restraints, but happening nonetheless.
I first bought it back over New Year in 2010. Having picked it up for £1100 from a Kia dealership in early January 2011, I took it home and made some photos.

The car was spotless, with barely any rust. Very proud of my new purchase, I had purchased an 8-ball gear knob. I fitted this immediately afterwards.

Following this, I decided that I wanted to go for a dark theme. So first up, I ordered some GTI Hella rear lights.

As inspired by a mate's Mk4, I decided to copy his idea of relocating the front numberplate. This is a picture of the car before I went kayaking. And yes, a midsize kayak can fit into a Golf. Making this a boat in a boat!

My attention then turned to the side repeaters. So I ordered a smoked set of them off of ebay.

Then came the time to take a road trip. So me and three friends went to Holland to visit a friend of mine who studies in Maastricht. Some pics from the trip here.

The biggest thing to date was when I got the windows tinted. After much enquiring, I found a dingy looking place in East London where they offered a cheap and highly rated service. On arrival the small workshop boasted a Bentley Continental, Porsche 911 and a brand new BMW 3 Series. After bargaining with the Serbian man for a few minutes, I got the work done for £130. And I must say it looks stunning and the workmanship is brilliant.

I agree. The original plan was to smooth the bumper over, but that never happened due to limited funds. So I moved it back later.

Agreed! Although I can't really afford to do that to it. I can't be arsed to spend that money for a car that can't take speedbumps. Looks great but lowering is a bit silly in the real world.

It's a '96 1.9d l. I originally wanted a TDI but this one popped up and I just couldn't say no to it.
As for plans, I have a set of GTI Hella headlights, which I plan to Lamin X once I get the time and money. Also I want some new seats. Originally I looked at leather but I don't think I can afford that realistically. So maybe some GTI non-leathers. Any suggestions of what to go for?

A standard set of GTI seats are relatively comfy compared to what you have, and you can pick a set up for about £50 too. :cool:

Finally got my lock repaired thanks to Murraymint's heads up and guide. I went to pick the piece up from a small office in Poplar where I found a very quiet man who gave me a discount. Nice man :smiley:

After fitting my last lock, the passenger side decided to pack up too. Needless to say, I was incredibly luck considering how long I waited to repair the driver's side. After a while I had this repaired too. Now I have two unlocking doors. Incredible!
I then decided that I needed black badges. So I purchased another set for £7.50 from eGay and got spray painting. Here are th originals removed.

No worries bud, glad you got it sorted. Yh I was being really careful with my passenger one when mine was broke coz I didn't fancy climbing thru the boot :grin:

Can i just ask why you didn't just buy black badges to start with rather than having to spray brand new chrome ones?

Really love those wheels for some reason, had them on mine and still have them on the rear.
If they were 2 inches bigger and a bit wider with a small dish they'd look awesome I think. :grin:

They were used and had lost all of the chrome. The before pics were the ones off of my car, so when it comes to resale I can replace them. And it cost me almost nothing to get the second hand badges. So that's why :smiley:

They're ok. I would prefer them a lot more if they were refurbed. I'll run them until I need to change the tyres and see where I go from there. I agree they would look tons better like that lol.

Not much progress happened since the last time. The Golf is soon to undergo it's overdue Full Service and maybe receive some rust treatment. If anyone knows anywhere good in Weymouth/Portland, then that will be appreciated.

A few updates since the last time.
Things changed:
1) New cambelt, power steering belt and fan belt.
2) Rust work repaired and painted (besides front arches).
3) Driver's lock mechanism repaired...again!
4) New cheap stereo just fitted.
5) Car was featured in Milton Keynes for the launch of the Golf MK7.
6) Hole welded up in the chassis.
7) Sprayed centre caps silver.
8 ) Dice dustcaps.
Almost in mind condition, besides Macpherson struts (MOT advisory) and needing replacement wings due to cosmetic rust.
