Simply question would just like a simple answer, Its because i have got fuelling problems. Anyone got an idea what common fuelling problem happen and how they are resolved? It seems after driving for a while the car coughs and splutters and cuts out at low revs, its as if the fuel isnt getting through correctly. Any help will be appreciated

If it's an E reg cab then it's a MK1 mate, they never made MK2 cabs. They made Mk1 cabs from 79/80 to 93 and then went straight to a MK3.
Is your cab a carb model? If so could be a problem with your peirberg carb. Some people do attempt to fix them, I just put a Weber on mine and it sorted it
What is the condtion of your fuel filler neck, is it rusted? If it is you could have rust in your fuel system.

Its a Gti so injection model, The filler neck seems to have been replaced fairly recently, no signs of rust from what i can see, I notice i get a whirring noise from under the car when the engine is running, is this normal??? 1988 E plate Cabriolet
