Title: Possible new car. E36 M3 rep. Opinion's
Post by: mk3.owner on 20 February 2012, 14:27
As the title.. I will only be paying £700 for it.

Well where do i start. BMW E36 318 IS Coupe. One of the cleanest i have seen. Not a single spec of rust. M3 front and rear bumper, M3 Side skirt's, M3 spoiler, Full Black Leather interior, Brand New angle eye head light's, M3 cat back exhaust system, M3 steering wheel, Tinted rear window's, Full ICE,

I know the picture's only show the car with M3 front bumper but just so you can see the car

Also the car will either come with the wheel's pictured or the same wheel's but powder coated white.

They are not M3 skirts or rear bumper.

Personally i'm not keen on cars that are made to be reps of the superrr fast version. Such as 1.4 mk4 looking like R32s. At the end of the day your gonna have spend your time telling people its not an M3..

.... I should hope you are getting the drift here

I like it. As you say the pics only show the M3 front bumper but I appreciate the rest of the pics are just to show how clean the car is.

I don't mind folk having a car which borrows from faster models. What gets me is folk that try to pass off their rep as the real deal, but if you like M3 looks but aren't ready for M3 speed, go for it.

This is a good idea actually.

That means you might be able to afford the insurance too.

if you want a 318is coupe buy the e3o not e36 there miles better alot lighter and the go sideways for fun lol you would get bored of the e36 there gutless due to them weighing loads, but they are revvy engines the 1800 dohc m42,and its only the front bumper that is an mtec m3 style the rest is just a 318 coupe

My god! Can't people read - it only has the m3 front bumper on for now.

Good shout on the E30, but a clean example is gonna be a bit more than this. I reckon switch the wheels from the e46 wheels and it will sit a lot better. Switch to the e36 m wheels and it'll be cool looking

How did you both come to that conclusion.? I'm quite interested to know.

Please bare in mind I'm 21 year's old. I dont want a car that i pay over the odd's on insurance for. Low and slow is my motto. Power to go sideways isnt a big thing either. Dont get me wrong i like drifting. But i like my licence more  :smug:

Just take a look at who drives them.

If you're 21, probably want to look at something else if you don't want to pay over the odds for insurance.

It's a bottom-feeding BMW 3-series coupé, mucked about with by someone who looks to have wanted a more expensive variant of the same.

If you can't see what's wrong with that, you probably won't understand why people have made the comments above.

It also has aftermarket 'angel eyes' on it.

Sam's idea is the best.  Back to standard all round.

Closest thing to an M3 you can get to (especially as i was 23 last year when i had mine).. 325 manifold and full decat and it pulled like a hoofin train. The vr gets guttless getting into triple figures but the 328 doesnt let off, even with a full car

2.8 litre bmw is restricted (tax laws) to 193bhp?
2.8 litre vr gets a measly 175bhp

I'm a cnut and I drive this;

328 sport, decat, full SS system etc etc and it's fomping rapid. But seriously I think cars that are done up to look like they're something they're not are a bit silly. First thing I did when I got mine was take off all the 'M3' badges a previous owner had liberally stuck everywhere. Would have been a bit embarrassing to come up against an actual M3 and be about 100bhp down.

you lot are missing the point. i never once said bmw drivers are all cnuts did i? maybe you're all just stupid for assuming i did

that particular car is masquerading as it's far superior big brother. it's big and it's heavy and will embarass the owner every time he pulls away from the lights next to a saxo. it won't do f£ck all in the snow (this is all bmws) and will cost a bomb to insure cause it's been modded to look like an M3. No wonder it's only £700 as it'll cost the op about 2k to insure if not more!

For the record i like bmw's. proper ones though.

I dont buy in to "all bmw drivers are c***s"

these are the same bmw driver that a few years ago started driving a4's, and now drive mk6 golfs  :lipsrsealed:

You have to take each person as is and try to stop generalising. The truth is though.. if a replica anything pulls up next to me at the lights, I have to let out a little girlie giggle/chuckle and ensure the driver notices just to confirm he's a cnut.

Nope they're still all in BMW's. What has changed is that they seem to have branched out from the 3 series and now inhabit the 1 series, 3 series and X3 models.

In fact they also drive X5, X6 and 5 series models.

And then they're sometimes in 6 series coupe's and even the odd 7 series which I saw last night change 3 lanes and take an exit over the white chevrons, all without indicating.

But as for folks doing up their cars, well there are plenty of Mk6's around where I live that have Monza's (some of them are reps) and different trims and at night when you only catch a glimpse you'd be forgiven for thinking they were GTI's. But the kids aren't trying to pretend they have GTI's, they just want their cars looking good.

It's funny, because we call applying higher spec parts to our own cars "OEM upgrades", but for everybody else it's "being a cnut".

It's funny, because we call applying higher spec parts to our own cars "OEM upgrades", but for everybody else it's "being a cnut".

The difference being the parts being applied to many VWs (noticeably not Golf3s and it's like a rash in the Golf4 arena too) are OEM, rather than cr@ppy after-market rubbish.

Except the awful RS8 and the like replica wheels.  They seem to be pretty common.

So far on my Passat I've fitted a Polo aerial (cheaper) and I'll be replacing the chrome-highlight side trims with matte black ones shortly.  Again, they're cheaper and less likely to curl off and catch on the other trims.

Generally only nippers replace stuff to make things look faster.  Most older folk realise it makes you look a tool.

Except maybe the tools in BMWs, who've been sticking M badges on 318s and 520s since you could buy M badges.

Suppose. But going for the replica M3 look is better than the Halfords look at least.

Except maybe the tools in BMWs, who've been sticking M badges on 318s and 520s since you could buy M badges.

And who got the best Christmas present ever when BMW decided you could buy M-sport cars with M-badges everywhere and a 318d or 320d badge on the back.

And who got the best Christmas present ever when BMW decided you could buy M-sport cars with M-badges everywhere and a 318d or 320d badge on the back.

You also get other oem extras when you spec an m sport model. In fairness the list of options you do get when you spec m-sport packs far outweighs the sum of the parts.

If you do want to mod, dont try make your car look like something its not. M-Sport is a pack specific from factory. M - Division cars are totally different.

Well I like the car in the first post. Back when it was new, the 318is (not to be confused with the regular 318i) was highly rated as a well ballanced little car that made the most of it's modest amount of power.

It looks to be a very clean car, so I think if it was put back to original spec, it would get an accepting nod from people that really know about cars.

Well explain how this car is such a big no for you.? Yes i admit the 318 isnt the quickest car in the world.. But the IS range is a tad different to the whole I range. But what the hell.. Who care's.? If i wanted a quick car id get the 2.8. I want this car just purely for getting from A to B.

It looks to be a very clean car, so I think if it was put back to original spec, it would get an accepting nod from people that really know about cars.

Agreed.

I think your bm looks fine and if you want to make look like an M3 rep then thats fine too. Not everyone cares about big speed and hammering folk off the traffic lights and due to increasing insurance prices you will see a hell of a lot of reps pop up in the future. Looks a good clean base model to work with. Looking forward to see what you do to it.
