Just thought this would be interesting :-
List what is irritating about your Mk6 BUT you forgive cos its such a damn good car in all the other areas.
eg, for me (after 3 weeks ownership)
media in port looks like maplin add on
reflection of the chrome surrounds on left and right air vent reflect exactly where you wing mirrors are on the side window
(if you havent noticed this, you will from now on  soz)
The sterring column shroud plastic is  and marks from trying to get the key in the ignition so so so easily.
The cloth interior rear seats fur up like a cheap suit on the part people swing there legs in and over
No sill protectors as standard is stooooooopid (but that aint the cars fault)
come on peeps,

Lack of sill protectors, rear cupholder seems to be quite fragile (or my rear passengers are particularly good at breaking it ), lac of GTI seat inserts, fog light covers in front wheel arch seem to really dislike the car as they always disappear...
...oh and the stone guards for the brakes seem to pick up stones really easily. I suppose they are doing their job but they make a terrible screeching noise.
-
scuffing the door card when i get out of the car no matter how hard i try i always do it!!! it leaves that horrid white scuff line!
-
Some of the internal plastics are damn cheap and nasty, apparently even Ford have upped their game in this area so come on VW. For a car costing as much as the mk6 I feel the plastics should be better.
Also some equipment that has to be specced as an option should be included ie folding mirrors, parking sensors, sunroof and rear view camera.
However I am not knocking the car as I love mine, it is all the car I ever wanted and makes me smile every time I drive it.
-

Hold the tip of your index finger just past the tip of the key blade when you are fumbling around trying to find the slot.
It's a good job Asker isn't here anymore, as I'm sure he'd have a predictable comment about my slot finding procedure.
-
The squeeky wipers. I've tried every cleaning solution / magic formula that's going and they still squeek!

I must be easy pleased as love the car. The only thing I would like is more power

+1, that is why I am going for the ED35. I always felt my ED30 was more fun and its down to the engine charateristic and power delivery.

Did you find it had that extra bit of poke ?
I’m going to order later in the year which just now looks like the Scirocco R. Would love the mark7 GTI but December will be the cut off date for ordering. Don’t want to lose too much on the GTI by holding onto it longer than necessary.
The Golf is a great practical car . however now it’s just me and the wife a Scirocco would be fine
-
 not sure about this but the rear view mirror is so very very straight edge rectangular,
rather than nice and curvaceous
ditto on the foglight covers/caps in the wheelarches goin missing penguinGTI, the salesman (when i pointed this out to him) assured me
there wasnt ment to be any covers in there and they where all like that UNTILL i said why has this GTI next to it not got any holes there and clearly has caps ? maybe only white ones have the caps  he was suitably embarrased :smug:

Sorry guys, but can you re-read the post, it wasnt titled ED35 / ed30 power and poke scirocco mk 7 cutoff dates,
no offence ment but stay to the topic or start a new one, its irritating which is applicable to this post almost

I've given up in replacing my fog light covers as they constantly wander off looking for a new home :wink::wink:

Yes the engine really does pull stronger and harder to the red line, the older EA113 (I think that is right) used in ED's and R's is just more fun. I would go for the Scirocco R if I didnt need the practicality of the Golf as I have a family. I have driven Golf R and Scirocco R both lovely but I prefer the front drive set up so my choice is ED35. If I had a Golf R I would have to tune it to 300+
Oops sorry Pottinger

Put some hair round it…… should then have no problem finding the slot

I got fed up replacing mine so siliconed them in the last time, haven't lost one since..
Reflection of Air vents annoy me too along with the wing mirror adjustment knob..
-
Nothing iratates me really, maybe leather could stay absolutely crease free for years and years.
-
The rubber dongle that is attached to the string on the parcel shelf. If it has snapped once it has snapped half a dozen times.Very fragile.

Am I missing sarcasm here?
How do you change the bulbs?
Another thing that irritates me, whenever I change the temperature to either "lo" or "hi" on the temperature the car suddenly panics and thinks there is a lack of oxygen and so blasts the fan up to full whack.... silly car

Surely the climate control should never really leave "hi" up there in Scotland, so it shouldn't really be a problem?

brakes are crap for a modern hot hatch and totally unforgivable IMO. the more i drive it the more it pisses me off.
the interior squeaks and creaks can be annoying then the next day they're gone only to randomly come back?!?!
after i wash and dry the car water drips from the door drains for ages which can be annoying!
-
The puny reversing light is annoying and as good as useless. It might help a bit more if there were 2. Penny pinching by VW!
The headlight washers; use copious amounts of washer fluid, they do a good job of washing the bonnet, but aren't very effective at cleaning the headlights.
Other than the above, really happy with my GTD. I've been fortunate not to suffer the creaks and rattles other owners have experienced, and after 7 months of ownership, still really enjoy just driving it!

I never use them so unlikely to ever need to change a bulb, the silicone is not permanent so could be separated if required.

I'll echo several people in this thread
The fact that cruise control and 18 inch alloys were (and still are) optional extras really annoys me.
The fact that my car creaks more than all of my mates' cars, none of which are remotely as expensive. It even creaks more than my 91 Mk2
The fact that if it's rained overnight and I open the window without thinking I get drenched
Still, there's much to love.
-
Wet outer seat bolsters on both front seats (with associated drip stains!).... Is it the door's leaking in the rain or just the drips when I open the door to get in???... Dammit I keep forgetting to check! DOH!
Always parking a foot away from the kerb (thinking I'm just inches from scuffing the alloys!)
-
Yes and I have to put petrol in mine and the price of road tax
-
What irritates me is dealer after sales, service, quality and attitude.
-
I must be easy pleased as love the car. The only thing I would like is more power
Get it remapped and eat ED35's for tea
* Unless of course it's a mapped ED35 :lipsrsealed:

Back on topic, the one thing that annoys me about my GTI is the cheap door cards and rear parcel shelf. I think VW have done a good job in making it look as good as an Audi inside but they have failed on the quality side of things.
How VW can charge more for an R than Audi do an S3 is completely beyond me.....

I get irritated when it goes in for a service and i end up with a polo or an automatic diesel passat for the day

I kinda like getting sh*t cars for the day as it makes you appreciate what you have a bit more!
I get lots of hire cars through work and they're always really cr@p and I love getting back in my A3 (soon to be GTI)

You have to admit tho', nothing is as fast or handles like a hire/courtesy car...

Scott, I couldn't agree more. Getting a low spec Polo, or if you're really unlucky, a Fox  as a courtesy car does make you appreciate your own car more.
Always enjoy getting back in my car!
-
That little storage compartment to the right and just below the steering wheel. Every time I use it i seem to manage not to close it properly. When I step out the car I always scrape my shin bone on the corner of the cheapo door of the compartment and turn the air blue with rage! :embarassed: I've lost count of the number of times I've done this and used to do it on my mk5 GTI all the time as as well. It's damn sore.
-
Cheap plastics and more rattles than Mothercare annoy me the most about this car. And that flat back gets filthy in 100yds of driving on a damp day
-
i wish i hadnt started this topic  i am now finding things i was blissfully unaware of
last night i decided i didnt like the rotary knobs that adjust the dash illumination brightness and the
headlight levels. Do they actually turn, they are the most unsatisfying dials (and too close togeather) ever
but i still cant help loooovin it !

I'm the same. At the end of the day every car will have little niggles that we don't like. But the benefits of the GTI far outweigh the niggles as far as I'm concerned.
Every time I drive it I can't help but think how good an overall package it is.
-
Oh flip, i cant stop now, this isnt directly about the car BUT
i cannot stand the way some adverts are done.
WHY WHY WHY do dealers adverts insist on placing things in the description that CLEARLY
are nothing to do with anything other than trying to make a list look longer:-
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201206448777637/sort/pricedesc/usedcars/body-type/hatchback/price-from/20000/fuel-type/petrol/maximum-age/up_to_3_years_old/model/golf/make/volkswagen/postcode/ip113ss/page/2/radius/200?logcode=p
I MEAN, rev counter FFS, walk into any dealers and say, good afternoon, can I place an order for a lovely £38k golf R
BUT
can i have it without a rev counter, power steering, cup holder, please its just plain irritating and i am :lipsrsealed: breath deeply, soz guys.

the one and only thing that annoys me about my GTD is the sunroof control is hard to see if the line onit is in closed position! it does not have a light and you have to lean right forward to see if what position it is in.
Rant over love my GTD! :)
-
After owning mk4,ed30 and now mk6
Cheap and nasty parcel shelf, wafer thin boot mat, the fact that you have to push fuel door to open (its fine when its girlfriend 10 year old polo but come on), and yes it needs far more power.
-
The Traffic Announcements (TP) on the RCD510. I can't find a volume setting that plays the traffic announcement at normal volume - it always seems to come in twice as loud as the radio or media.

I agree and one of the reasons I didnt specifiy a sunroof in the ED35. I think I have opened the roof a handful of times in the past 2.5 years because its easier to open a window. I like a sunroof more for the light it brings into the car and not bothered about it opening, if need fresh air I open a back window, so couldn't justify it this time, plus you can't order a sunroof if you specifiy the optional 19" Glendales, any one know why? This might be irritating for those that want both

It's all down to weight I think.

Nothing of great note annoys me, but just to pick up on one or two dislikes posted by others.
The reflection of the air vents in the mirrors - this is a very artistic feature in my view, I like it. If you don't look for it you don't see it.
The shape of the rear view mirror is superb, nice and chunky giving a great view behind.
There are NO marks around my ignition switch after 2 years - just be more careful.
Never had a cord break on the rear parcel shelf.
If I was being picky, I do get annoyed at the length of time it takes for water to stop running out of the door drains after washing.

Candle powered headlights.
Lack of standard equipment such as cruise control etc
Low power outputs vs weight / CC on standard GTD / GTI combined with "unusual" power delivery on the GTI when loaded up in a high gear at low revs.
The boot floor tiedowns need to be an inch lower as my boot net seems to hover above the boot floor.
I think it was a mistake to get rid of the cloth trim - why not bring the price down instead and give people the option of leather? (not that I'd have tartan seats but I can understand why people do )
Bootlid fit is never right, I've never seen one that is perfectly straight.
More options that are available in other markets would be nice such as electric memory seats, garage door opener, pre heater etc
-
Quite incredible some of the moans on here.
Most of them would never even have crossed my mind.
Too easily pleased I suppose.
-
Or your use to buying sh!te one or the other

there needs to be a front heated screen! have winter pack and this is lacking, ford focus' have had these for years! and its hardly pushing the boundaries of whats possible these days..
-
means they would have to pay ford royalties as they patented it.
I've about 4 cars now (only 2 of them being fords) with them and they're a god send in the winter.

Eh? The Passat CC has heated front winscreen...
Jim
-
Yep you are right Jim. It's a £145 option on the Passat, heated windscreen and heated seats..
Cant say I like it as it always looks like you are looking out of a dirty window, especially when the sun shines and the elements are really visible.

yeah and they would have had to pay ford for every car its fitted too which is why a lot of manufacturers won't fit them.
I've had minis with heated screens
-
I am sure i read somewhere on google that the patent expired a few years ago??? apparently skoda yetis have the heated screen option ..maybe we will see it as an EXTRA option on the mk7 and on the new A3

dunno maybe the patent ran out but I'm sure when ford introduced them any other manufacturer had to pay them if they used them on their cars.
-
So who owns the patent for heated rear screens?
