Title: Leon Cupra R
Post by: raptorSE on 20 February 2012, 09:34
I have always liked them and been thinking about a getting a new car recently so decided to test drive one on Saturday and I loved it. Suspension is nice and firm nice amount of power but remap filter and exhaust will be on the cards once I get it. So the search will begin soon for either a grey or red one

Bought one i'n December, nice set up from the mk3...watch out for water leaks....I have to take off the front bumper and wing tonight to try and sort a leak on mine...the biggest flaw on the car...other than that very happy

Cool story bro!

They dont make 270bhp from a remap and induction kit like people think, nice motors though.

I have 1 its a nice car all in all. Normal place it leaks is the passanger door. Lots of info on them on seatcupra.net.  Thinking gettin a better map on mine in the summer time.

eh? why the wing and bonnet to sort out a water leak? they are normally through the door seals.

good choice, the grey one looks better than red. dont get yellow as they suffer big time from paint fade and its a respray job.

It's not the doors, pollen filter, grommet for bonnet release or the box that houses the wiring loom from bay to dash...it's leaking inside the channel from the windscreen to drain...theres an access hole behind the wing...to get the wing off the front bumper needs to come off (so I'm told anyway)

Some people have got around the 270bhp mark with a badger 5 80mm tip and remap...find it hard to believe myself

I didnt think they would make 270bhp from a remap 260bhp more like. I like them in red but will more than likely try and find a grey one. I have joined cupra.net and theres a useful buying sticky on there so will def be using that.

252 bhp is what I was told by local tuning company to expect from a stage 1...might as well be realistic about it

Even they have some 'nice' rollers

Standard (so pretty much spot on)

Revo stage 2 (so intake, exhaust, intercooler etc)

270bhp

Prepare to be unhappy, as you wont be getting 300bhp with those mods in a leon cupra, unless its the mk2

The bottom picture has those mods  :lipsrsealed:

Theres a few on cupra net that are at 300 didnt think they had loads more mods than that. Will wait and see what I get then.

All forums have people with dyno readings that are silly, they dont knock them though. As soon as someone gets an accurate lower reading, everyone says how the RR must be reading wrong, it was hot that day etc etc

The only leon i have ever had leave me had a massive turbo conversion and was pushing 350bhp. Have had another Cupra R try it with me. It was a stage 2 and the guy thought it was 300bhp, i destroyed him from standing and rolling. He has since RR it at another place and got 248bhp (much more accurate)

I can assure you they used over reading dynos to get 300 bhp.

The above graphs are from the same (as in model) car. The standard one hits book figures, the stage 2 with intercooler, exhaust and induction struggles to hit 250bhp. Still quick mind.

Yeah I know what you mean though mate. Although I would have expected more than that from those mods. As you say will still be quick though and they dont look nice. Im in a 150bhp vectra at the mo so will be a rocket compared to that although they aint slow for what they are.

Big BHP numbers are just willy-waving pub talk

Do you really mate? I drove my mates S3 same shape as yours and loved it. I much prefer the look of the old Cupra R compared to the new one. Seen a few LCR's with sub 30k mileage so thats what ill be looking for. Insurance is soooo bloody exspensive in London compared to Kent prices theres a £1000 difference between addresses

Tell me about it. My R32 in finsbury park was silly!! The S3 isnt much better  :lipsrsealed:

Old Leon is the best looking hatch of that age (ctr, mk4 gti etc etc)

New hatches i obviously think mine looks best

Not a fan of the new cupra, though i do like the K1!

Most of the ones I have seen on the rollers make factory power or more, around 197bhp is the norm.

Jules are you sure the second dyno (the stage 2 car) has a remap and not just hardware mods? It's only making 24hp over standard, that's not proper stage 2 gains to be honest.

I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out to be stage 2 hardware without a map.

But yeah, the quoted 270hp from a remap and an air intake is a bit ambitious.

Doesnt specify.

I know i have yet to come across a 'fast' cupra that has not had major work done but claimed big power.

I'm sure nick at r-tech would clarify what are realistic stage 1 and 2 results on a Cupra r....there's way too many people on the seat forums pushing 270 plus on stage 2 verified at rolling road days...I k ow a filter and remap won't get 270 but from all the examples on seat forums I'd be confident of getting close to 270 and more with the recommended hardware and software mods for stage 2..

I do wonder whats happening to this power then, as the guy was adamant he was running loads of power against me, but just went backwards when we floored it.

I know the S3 tends to run more than audi state, but mine is a lot heavier than a leon cupra!  :undecided:

270bhp

Im with you on this

however this is on a heartbreaker RR (Dynodynamics)  also on shootout mode so the figures will be lower than normal (its how people use Dyno dynamics RR)

this car would prob make about 270 on a normal RR

My S3 / LCR engine has custom map on it from Carbon and a whole host of other mods and it came out at 252 on the Dyno Dynamics RR.
Craig told me its around 270 mark if they put it on a other RR or not in shootout mode, either way BHP is for goons its all about the torque curve and mines really good

Made a guy in a new Cupra R (same engine as new S3) look a fool on the motorway

Must of been a stock mk2, otherwise it would of left you crying with all that high end boost that it holds when remapped  I do miss my mates k1

Saying that I do prefer the mk2 Cupra R over the k1 bodykit and the k1 is technically a cupra not an "R"

They shine in 3rd gear, wish we recorded our messing around on the m25 when we slowed it down in all lanes and launches at full speed

Similar mods to you and he would be pushing 350-400bhp. They run 12.9's all day long (in a fwd car!!) Would have you looking at new turbos when you got home
