Right where do i start a few weeks ago my wide's golf gti turbo started 2 Judder and hesitate on pull off then started 2 tick over like a sack of poo and the warning light came on straight away. I sent it 2 my mates place and he did a diagnostic on it and it came up as a temp sender unit. This was replaced with a gen part and the car has been fine until today.
We have been out 2day done about 50 miles pulled up at a junction then pulled off and the car started 2 hesitate and Judder again like last time also ticks over like a bag of poo now and again but the warning light hasn't come on this time. The warning light is working ok as it comes on when the ignition is put on then goes out when the car is started. Does any 1 have any ideas i don't think it can be much as the car drives fine as I've done over 100 miles 2day while it was like this. Cheers mark

AUM? Boost leak Coil pack?
-
AGU? igniton amp?
-
Sounds like a similar issue i had a few weeks back. Diagnostics showed a fault on the coilpack but was actually the ignition amp.

AGU doesn't have an engine management light

Is that because it would just be on all the time?
-
no!! lol
it wa the early one, so everything is the best, so it has no fault's!

Indeed simple basic ecu = win

Right took the golf to work today and borrowed a ignition amp of a friend 2 try. Was told it was located under the air filter box but i couldn't find it mine is the AUM engine.
While the air filter was out i tried the car and it was running fine so i put it all back together but problem came back. So i disconnected the plug to the sensor on the intake pipe to the air box the MAF sensor i think its called and its running like a dream so i am guessing that its this sensor i need? Or could it still be something else? Cheers mark

Yeah sounds like the MAF part numbers here http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=94783.0
Get Bosch or a genuine one

could be a faulty maf if you unplugged it and it ran fine then yhats whats wrong

So i tried another MAF sensor 2day and no difference it still ran like a sack of poo. The MAF came off a good running car so what else could it be any ideas?

Was the maf from the a car with same engine code?

Did you clear the fault codes after fitting it?

Did you clear the fault codes after fitting it?
didn't realise i needed to thought fitting a new one would cure it . I'm not used to these modern cars i'm used to old fords like my cossie and turbo much easier to work on lol

Is the engine management light still on? Im not sure clearing the codes will make any differance tbh.

First things to do are:
Clean your throttle body.
Clean up any contacts on earth wires.
Check your spark plugs. (note the condition)
Give it a general service.
They are free/cheap, and give a good indication of the running of the engine.
Disconnecting the MAF and having it run better, means that something is screwing with the fuelling map on the ecu. It sounds as though it's running rich. Unplugging the MAF switches to a safe default fuelling map. Which would cure this.
My guess would be a boost leak, or lambda sensor.

Well you need to clear the codes. As said make sure the free stuff is done TB clean and it is well serviced.
Then I would get it on vag com and do some data logging and find out for sure what going on.
