Any help with the following appreciated.....
Coolant guage fluctuates sometimes.
Takes ages to come up to temp.
I'm thinking thermostat and coolant temp sensor. Opinions?

Thermostat but you can change both as a precaution; get some fresh coolant in there too :afro:

Cheers for that. I noticed that the temp sensor ain't too bad to change, but upon looking at the location of the stat at looks a right pain.
Is it possible to change with the alternator fitted? If so, anyone got any recommendations of best way to go about it?

I had to change both on mine when I bought the car you dont need to take the alternator off I didnt anyway just had to use a long extendable socket to get in there if the nuts crack first time its not to bad to do and im a novice with cars

try the green temp sender - my old A3 did this. Temp guage was slow to rise then just random.
Trust me - stat will be ok.

Cheers sprout, where is that located?

Its on back of the engine. right corner of block if looking at engine bay, just above shift cables.
You can see it if you look down directly from intake pipe
Look for horse shoe clip. Buy new clip and o ring just in csse they get dropped or damaged

Cheers, much appreciated.
