Post by: dean_chad on 22 May 2005, 16:26
right then mk1 people, mk1s for me have been the car ive wanted to own....... now im a bit older and the insurance companies are being nice to me its time to buy! ive had 2 cars and they have both  let me down! (ford and peugoet) so many people go on about vw and i can see why. i love the look of the mk1 cab but dont know where to start.can anyone help. i mean what are the main differences with the cabs ie the sportline n rivage and all them funny names like clipper, is there somewhere with all the specs and what the differences are between all of them. which one in your words lads and lasses would be the one to aim for, cheers for reading this and hopefully you might know just a tad more than me!

Welcome to the forum mate

Mine is a Clipper. The clipper model is a 1.8 carb with the clipper kit on it. The Rivage and sportline as the best models and I would highly recommend you get one of them  They are both 1.8 GTI engines. The Rivage has leather interior and lots of other extras. The Sportline has bucket type seats.

Gibby on her has a Rivage and Velly has a sportline, they will be able to give you more info on them

...and so is the Rivage, especially in green

Seriously, if you are looking for a mk1 cab then you are best going for one of the late model sportline or rivage (both rare !) Clippers are not GTI's and so are 1.8 carb engines. The rivage and a sportline are very similar but I look at it like this, the sportline is sportier with bbs wheels and recaro seats as standard and came in black or red (cant remember seing any other colours :undecided: ) but the rivage was the top of the range at the time and the classier model   as some, but not all, had leather seats, all had electric windows, heated seats, mohair roof and le castellette wheels as standard and only came in blue or pearl green, all green ones had cream leather interior and some of the blue ones, did but not all. Clippers, sportlines and rivages all had the clipper kits.

If you need anymore info then let us know, there's enough mk1 cabs on here to point you in the right direction. For the record, sportlines and rivages were done from J (91/92) until K (92/93), if you are really lucky you might find the odd L reg but they are as rare as hens teeth.
