I have been doing 9am to 3am to get various uni projects done for the past 3 weeks pretty much non stop. I was doing uni work right over the christmas break and had a manic few weeks before hand too. I know I should b!tch as im a student and get to 'sit around and drink all day whilst playing ps3  ) but im starting to find it pretty damn hard to been my own boss and paying for all this work. Anyone else having manic times at work at the min and are about burnt out?

welcome to the wonderful world of working for a living... last week was just over the 100hour mark. The week before was similar.. and next week probably will also.

Thats the thing, I do really enjoi my course but the workload is manic. I was an architectural assistant for a year which was intense but rewarding and have worked as a building site labourer every holiday all holiday from the age of 14 , uni just seems to be relentless at the moment

Pussy. Yes you.

Have kids, keep a job, then whine.
For now, take a large piece of STFU.

only real advice I could offer is devise a plan which caters for everything... inc relaxation time. Then stick to it. May sound boring.. but as long as you stick to it, it will work.
I dont want to hear you dont have time

Not exactly manic for me
but i have loads on at work(not contracted to do overtime so if it doesent gett done then oh well it will be in late) so quite rushed at work. then getting too/from work is taking ages cause of road woorks. so im generally up at 6-7 and not getting home till 6-7. also have lots of uni work to do aswell as wprking 40hours a week. and also been suffering from accute insomnia for a few weeks now due to cerrtain things going on in my life so feeling pretty run down
-
Yes, but I've been doing 11-12 hour days for months + commute time of 30-60mins each way, getting home, having dinner putting the kids to bed and studying from 8pm-11pm as often as I can, sometimes working 6-7 days a week. Every week I seem to get a cold and I'm constantly dosed up on day nurse or ibuprofen, my boss has even got concerned and suggested I take
euthanasia echinacea tablet too boost my immune system.
F@ck it, keep plodding on. After all it's only going to get better, right?

Nope.
I'm feeling suitably relaxed having nearly had a week off work after 5/6 days a week 12 hours + a day (and only getting paid for 43 of them!) . Go back on Monday to a new 'project'. See what that brings.

Are those tablets prescription only? I get a cold/ill every time I have a project due. My immune system is pretty much non existant ever since having glandular fever when I was 17.
One thing to note on the 'it will get better' is that my work from last week has been selected to be in the final of 10 people from 150, this is however a bit of a kick in the nuts as my portfolio is due in tommorow and I have a big hole that that work was going to fill...
-
I cannot even comment on this, my job is far less stressful than I could ever have ever imagined. Just finished 6 weeks worth of courses where I was only 'working' 4 day weeks :lipsrsealed:

Get it at the pharmacy counter, they will tell if you can take it after asking you some questions, it really does help. Need to get some echanasia or what ever it is, my MD swears by it.
-
I know what you mean, I've had a proper manic day! Usually in work at about 7.45, and finish at 10.......am. Today though, I had to escort a load of apprentices round the dockyard until 3! PM!
Un be f**king leevable! :lipsrsealed:

I'm feeling really really tired come early afternoon as of late.

I washed 16 cars today - and I feel all washed out

Its ENJOY not ENJOI! c'mon mr student!
It'll all get better dude, i got 2 kids and work 12 hour shifts, but you get used to it, once uni is out of the way you won't know what to do with yourself! just get ya head down and crack on, the days may just all blur together but it'll be all over before you know it. until you have kids that is! And remember (although mine isn't the best) it's always worth putting the effort into your spelling and grammar at ALL times!!!

Victim of commercialism then eh! kids today! Or should that be "yoof" blud? :lipsrsealed:
-
That's how I spell enjoy as well.
I'm fcked by about Wednesday from running a sales floor that don't want to sell your product. Nothing like banging your head against a brick wall 8-6 every day and then having to justify why you're not hitting target each month, which you have no control over.
Roll on next week when the new job starts.

yes, from relationship stuff :(

does it seem to anyone else that people's attitude toward their job is getting worse, almost as if "you don't pay me enough to work that hard" whatever happened giving 100% so you don't loose your job?! It's getting quite bad at my work (yodel) people are acting as if they can just get another job straight away. Courier is a hard job to get as it's quite cushtey once you're out on the road! the worlds going mad!

Its all about fast easy money and a selfish attitude, the recession would be over a lot quicker if we had a hard work ethic like Germany......
Those poor sobs are keeping the euro afloat, that's for bombing my chip shop Adolf

I felt like sh!t since last summer!
Took out one drug that I had been taking for years and have my mojo back and no more pain in joints which means tool box time this year!
Kids, half term, shopping for misses & kids, 1/4 f**k you bills to pay...... yeah I'm pretty happy these days!
Student days was the best f**king time of my life even working saturdays and sundays back then trick is only go to seminars f**k the rest read loads of books and porn smoke loads and shag loads graduate with honors and then feel the pain doing 6.30am then coming home at 8.00PM for 15 years, come back then moan Sammy!
-
I felt tired at work once. Then again I had just woken up after my 4 hour break, gotta love those nightshifts
-
I think the problem has been highlighted by jay to be honest, its not the hard work that kills me - its a case of when working long hours and not sleeping I genuinely get run down and ill. Today I feel like death and got pretty much zero sleep last night which as stated isnt an issue, its the headach, stomach cramps and cold that bother me
-
Go to the doctor for full works check up you might think its nothing but does sound like autoimmune deficiency something is causing you're lack of energy? Could be food related or vitamin related?
Who knows just go and get some blood group works and find out!
The longer you leave it the worst it gets if not diagnosed properly.

I've had a cold and generally felt crap for around four weeks now, also had S&D in that time too. Glands in my neck are swollen and I feel like I could sleep for a few days non stop. Got the kids to blame for it though, both have various stages of chicken pox and associated colds. Trouble is when they don't sleep, neither do I. They can catch up on sleep when I'm at work though
-
I feel absolutley fooked this weekend. Had a massive sneezing fit, then a banging headache and eyeball ache since and a bit of a cold.
-
I have a few relaxation mp3s I used a few months back when I was out of work and struggling to sleep on an evening. I really thought they were a load of rubbish until I tried one and work up so relaxed I felt I couldnt move my arms. Worth a try I would say
-
To chill out, I like to listen to Aphex Twin, Biosphere, Brian Eno, that kinda stuff.

Good suggestion, may have to try download some. The problem with uni is that you work in your room, watch tv in your room, eat in your room and sleep in your room. So finishing for the night is simply a case of standing up, turning round and falling into bed so your brain doesnt switch off properly.
I have actually had a lul in work this weekend after a massive double hand in on friday but the weekend has been tainted somone due to picking up a monster cold :embarassed:
