Alrite peeps - are all late 16v (256mm) from brake set up hubs the same as all late 8v's? The reason I ask is that I've got a 256mm front setup to go on my 92 8v - VWSpares only list 2 front bearings - 84 - 87 and 88-92. I guess my new hubs must be 88-92 - didn't the 16v have the 239mm fronts before this? Or could the new hubs I have potentially be 256mm but 84-87? Cheers for any help :-)

I would say the latter.
Pre-87 (239mm) would be (I imagine) hubs that have integrated carriers, whereas post-87 (256mm) have separate carriers.
So if you've got 256mm with separate calliper carriers, its probably the latter.

I would've thought the same bud - but there's only the two types so was worried because my 92 8v hubs have integrated carriers but surely it's not the same bearing as 256 hubs?

There's the link - hope I've got the right one's! Need to take them somewhere anyhow as I don't have a bearing press :-(

If you have a decent vice and some appropriate sizes sockets you can usually make do

I would try - but just had my gallbladder removed last week so I'm a bit stuck to the keyboard only right now!

Been there, broken the decent vice changing bearings.
Not recommended.

Ay taking them up to the local garage to sort - appears the new one's are the correct size
