Looking good.....bet you can't wait to get behind the wheel!

Just managed to get hold of one coming into the UK this week.....! Test drove today, can't wait to get behind the wheel in my one now, over 4000rpm and they turn into the beasts that lie within.
-
My local dealers have a red one sitting in the showroom .very nice it is too .

Thanks for the positive comments. I am really pleased with the Carbon Grey, and the black ED35 accents are highlighted by the Glendale's

Definatly the right wheels IMO, the other ones looks like they come off a Focus ST.

Looking good. Best colour and wheel choice on the ED35
-
Great colour but the 19'' wheel option is  . Standard 18' look much better imo.Sorry :embarassed:
-
Have to agree, those 19" wheels aren't to my taste. The grey standard 18" are a little more understated. That's just my opinion.
-
i think the wheels look  and I have seen them on a carbon grey GTI ed35 at a dealers and they look better in the flesh imo.
The standards are not my taste, more for the fact i had a zafira GSI and they are very very similar, so thats probably why
Monza's will/do always look so right that its hard to give another wheel a chance but the Ed35 cant use them as it has to be
different understandably.
Off topic, but EDI35, check that drivers side headlight washer flap, it maybe just me or the photo but it seems to be sitting a bit
high ?
cheers

potts, thanks the wheels do look better in the flesh and really go well on the ED35 with the extra black trim. I had not seen either the Watkins Glen or Glendale alloys in the flesh before I ordered the car so I am really pleased that these look so good (not everyone's cup of tea, but I don't care coz I love them). I have also not seen the Watkins Glen in the flesh either but from the pictures I like them but preferred the Glendale. Its nice to have a choice as the ED30 came with the Pescara only. Its funny that when the ED30 came out there was divided opinion on these wheels too and these looked really good much better than the standard 17" Monza's. However I do like the Monza's and especially the Monza shadows which have always looked fantastic.
Also good spot on the pic of the head lamp washer cover which I have brought to my dealers attention, thanks.

welcome Edi35  remember to take your time and check every part of the car thoroughly (dont let the dealer shuffle you along to quickly) as pointing out problems (and i am sure there wont be any) before driving off can save ya a load of hastle later, ie check the paint work maticulously or they have the chance to say it happended after you took delivery  then when your driving home ENJOY yourself, and i will bet you get neck ache from glancing in nice big shop windows trying to see how luverrrrrly it looks   (it doesnt ware off either )

...........ED 30 had the option of 18'' monza in satin black finish.

Gene Hunt as in "Fire up the quattro?" I used to have one
Off topic, sorry
Hmmm, I am not entirely convinced this was a UK spec factory option or an urban myth, but I could well be wrong :lipsrsealed:.
When I ordered mine in June 07 this was not an option I could choose (not that I wanted too). I have a number of brouchures for the 2007/8 MY Golf and Edition 30 and there is no mention of the Black finish Monza 2. The normal Diamond cut with grey inside finish is stated. Also I have never seen a UK spec ED30 with these fitted in the flesh or for sale in adds. There are plenty of pics from the press release design study with the Black Monza's, but all the UK test drives have the Pescara's fitted. :undecided:
Perhaps some one (is that you Gene) who is wise and has a factory ordered ED30 with Black Monza's could put me straight, thanks?
-
Wasn't an option when I orderded mine either, and have never seen it to be one for UK spec.

Buster73, I pick up my ED35 on 2nd March (can't wait) Please give us some details of your car? I am going down to the dealers to talk about the deal on Friday  very pleased for you.
Out of interest Edi what made you swap your current mk6 gti for an ed35 seeing as the mk7 gti is on the horizon?
I'm tempted to do the same this year as I can't see me paying 30k when the mk7 comes out.
-
Black Monzas were a dealer fit. They were fitted as standard to ED30s on the continent, but we had the BBS Pescaras as standard.

I agree, it's going to be bad enough for all MK6 owners when the MK7 comes out let alone losing money on the standard GTI then losing money on the ED35 too. I was going to get a used R this year but I can't bring myself to spend that amount of money on a car that's going to look and feel dated in 18 months time...
Lets be honest the MK7 standard GTI is going to a better car than the standard GTI and the ED35 for sure.
Jim

Jim...maybe that won't be the case..the MK7 could be the down fall of the GTI....

Well I just couldn't not have it as  I really loved my ED30 and the MK6 is a better car overall but doesnt have the same feel of the ED30 and is not quite as exciting. The ED35 is the best of both and is just a great car, looks fantastic, sounds just like the R, revs like the ED30 and is the best GTI to date
The family only has one car at present so when the MK7 comes out I will see what that is like and decide when to buy and might end up with two like I did when I had the ED30 and the current MK6 but that is really going to hurt my piggy bank

Each to their own with regard to buying new or used cars as we all have different budgets. For me the ever rising cost of living in this country is making me think twice about buying new cars at 30k +.
Yes I'd love a fully loaded mk7 gti and there's no doubt it will be a better car but I'm not prepared to break the bank for one. The Mk6 gti ticks all the boxes for me so I would be more than happy to buy another one and save a few pennies in the process.
I'm sure I'm not the only one in this current climate who is thinking along these lines.
I've brought either new or nearly new cars every 3-4 years for the last 18 years. I think spending circa 25k is the peak I'm willing to pay now tbo.
-
and so the circle continues...
the mk5 owners complained the mk6 was too expensive for what was essentially the same car. Once the final payments of their finance were complete they realised that actually the mk6 wasnt that bad.
the mk6 owners are now in the same boat and most will say how the mk7 is too expensive and wont be worth it as the mk6 is so good... the ed35 owners will complain how they wouldnt buy a less powerful car as did the ed30 owners looking at a new gti.
.... it all changes
-
And even if it has 300BHP they will get them remapped and say that's how it should have left the factory
Hold on that was me :embarassed:

LOL your right and knowing me I'll buy a Mk7. The point I was trying to make though is the cost of living and cost of running cars has risen considerably since the Mk5&6 days therefore some people will think twice about buying new cars in this climate. I might be wrong.... Would be interesting to know from someone in the game how new cars are selling compared to a few years back?
