Title: Noisy Cam Shaft
Post by: AlexMozza on 15 February 2012, 13:45
I know its not a golf, but I cant seem to find any information on it, and It should be a pretty generic answer :D
When I start my satria GTi the cams seem rather loud, but after a minute or two they go quiet.

I have just done a full service and engine flush as I have been told that some cam shafts have oil channels that can get blocked over time.
The noise does not seem to be affecting anything, just curious to what is causing it.

Thanks

Could  be worn tappets and/or followers in the head mate?

It may be that you've got an oil filter that doesn't have a non return valve, so over a period of time the oil drains completely to the sump, and although when you start the car it will get oil at the top end straight away, it may take a while for the oil to work into the tappets. As Hoggy said it may be worn tappets as well though.
