Title: MK3 Interior electrics
Post by: FlashRedThree on 15 February 2012, 02:35
So I have a 1.4 SE, and it doesn't have central locking or electric windows. How difficult would it be to retrofit these? Ive seen some universal kits on ebay for the central locking, such as this one (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/400220051001?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649) but are they just crap? It'd be nice to modernise my interior somehow, having to lock doors manually especially is getting old. Using the search I can find plenty about upgrading from central locking to remote central locking, but couldnt find anything about getting it in the first place!
Thanks.

retro fitting the windows is pretty straight forwards, infact i did write a guide, but i cant remember if i ever posted it,   as for the locks, just as simple as you need to swap the door loom with one for, lets say a GTI,  swap the window regulators, then change over all the locking gear, but you will also have to run the loom for the vac pump and then the vac lines, which you can just buy silicone hose from b&q. Little more involved than the windows but nothing too tricky, then fit the switches, then there is a loom that runs from one door loom connector to the other and branches off to the fuse box, jus a case of plug and play.  All the sockets for the plugs are there for you. the GTI Loom will have a thermal protector fuse type thing, that just clips on the top of the fuse box.

I will see if i can find the guide.

If you can, that would be great, thanks for all the info!

What sort of price did you have in mind? It's only a 3 door though if that makes a difference to you selling the bits!

I need everything, from the regulators to the actual switches to wind them up or down. Do these go in the dash near the heater controls etc or are they mounted in the door handle region? If you have what I need, PM me letting me know a price
Thanks.
