Title: rear brake caliper..driving me mad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Post by: Diluxe on 21 May 2005, 21:52: Hi guys,hand brake stopped working on the left rear brake caliper spent an hour or so taking the cable of the car to replace it with a new one.

realised when i got it off that the cable wasnt snapped :huh:

had a further look around tha caliper and the mechanism that the cable attaches to on the caliper seems to have seized :cry: and now no longer rotates.

any idea guys what gone on wrong and can it be fixed?

iÃƒâ€šÃ‚Â dont really want to spend 50 notesÃƒâ€šÃ‚Â :cry: on caliper if it can be refurbed somehow.

Post by: Agreeable Slick on 21 May 2005, 22:09: I took mine off and left them in a bucket of diesel overnight, freed them up a treat. Although saying that they did seize on me when i was driving and caused the car to flip.

So i guess it depends on whether you want to risk it or not.

i've never taken a caliper apart does the piston come out somehow so i can see what happened to the mecanism behing that pushes it out ?

any one usinga euro car parts caliper ?any good?

well, i had one from a breakers, it was 35 quid i think, and it sized also by the time the next mot came around...... :undecided: ECP worked out the same ish price for a shiny furbed one :cool: which sailed thru the mot :cool:

Post by: robushka on 22 May 2005, 11:53: I had seized rear callipers repeatedly over the years, they would last about a couple of years and cost a fortune. Then I someone suggested I used mk3 callipers which were a lot cheaper, I had them fitted 4/5 years ago and have never had a problem since.
