Mono for the subs only.

What RMS is the sub? - Get a Mono amp that has a higher rating than the sub and turn the gain down. Last thing you want is the amp to be struggling to power that sub.

I would use the current 400W stereo amp for the fronts and turn the gain down also.

I have amped my fronts but don't expect miracles with 5.25 components.

The best deals are ex display stuff.

cheers it already is a 400 watt mono amp il take a risk as i got it off ebay for 100 with the 600 watt sub and box and  an alpine head unit for a hundy seemd ood to me, if the amp blow then its blows, so i need a stereo amp like 300 watts for front comps then? depending what power the comps are doubt il get more than 200W thanks
