Sorry to have to post this I'm sure a little bit of searching will find it but I'm at work and my boss won't let me, so could anyone tell me if I can use 5w 30 oil in my 2.0 gti or does it have to be 5w 40 as I can get hold of halfords own 5w 40 but I don't reallywant to put in or mobil1 but it's 5w 30, the oil is on the min line so will need to put some in. Cheers

5W-30 fully synthetic oil that conforms to VW 504.0 spec is what you want.
-
What is 504 spec how do I find that out? Is it 5 30 that I need?
-
Also can I not use 5 40 at all then?
