Can't decide 18 or 19s for car.....don't want problems with either

Voted 18's. IMO 19's aren't worth the extra hassle.

I'd go 18s
Cheaper tyres, no chance of rubbing if lowered, and you cannot really tell the difference between 18s or 19s visually when fitted to the car because of the high slab sided look of the GTi

19"s are fine, and make the steering more precise (my winter wheels are 18"s) but if they aren't decent quality, strong wheels...you'll bend them. There is verly little by way of protection offered by the tyre.

In saying that...for everyday use, with everything considered...I'd probably go with 18".
-
It would be everyday use. 17s I have now are fine but comparing it to other rides it's harsh but web ur in the same car u tend not to notice if u get me...

You have been told this...8.5"s are marginal...9.5"s ARE TOO WIDE.

I agree the 19's sharpen up the steering, I also felt on the test drive I had of the ED35 the front end felt more planted with optional 19" Glendale than the 18" Monza shadows I have on my GTI. Also the ride did not suffer other than on poor country roads. I have gone for the 19" Glendale on my ED35. In short go for which ever you fancy.
