Basically I have fitted 3 out of 4 spark plugs as one of them just wont come out, the 3 I got out were in a pretty bad state to say the least.....so if anyone has any good tips for getting a spark plug out that is wedged in and just turns but can still be tightened crack on.
Its now turning over on every key turn but still not firing up.
I still cant hear the fuel pump priming so if anyone knows which relay I need to check (i think its 18)
At the min, I only have myself to work on it....my mate is currently fitting geart boxes and flywheels to 2 volvos.
So HELP lol

Try lifting the socket up gently as you undo the plug. It may catch a new thread.
Is it spinning on the same thread when you undo it?
-
That spark plug problem sounds scarey. I hope its an 8v
Checked the fuses for the pump and played with the pump connector?
I would get a volt meter on the pump electrical plug than mess with the relays and other stuff.
I do have a pump here if you need it.
-
Well cars I dont know but engineering I know a little of and it feels at first like the thread is just corroded as and quite stiff but then it loosed and was just spinning like its sat between 2 threads....ill give another go tomora (got a cold at min and my patience was wayning lol)
No its a 16v :s
Do you know off the top of your head which fuse/relay it is for the fuel pump!?
It did prime nicely when I picked it up but now its just not happening!
-
Fuel pump relay will be either 80, 67 or 167 depending on time of manufacture. Its located bottom right of the relay inserts above the fuses.
-
as for the plug.
you'll be needing to tke the head off, then some presision bashing is likely to be required before drilling tapping and helicoil. enjoy
-
How the hell did you thread the hole?
Next time use a socket to loosen then unwind out by hand (reverse to put them in)
The soft Alu does not like rapid wrench action leave that one for the porn!
As danny said helicoil it, but head off as if you do it situ swarf will drop down the bores if it hasn't already!!!

See I didnt, been fairly new to this working on cars malarky I used the socket on the extension to locate the socket then as you said used gradual pressure to loosen it and then unwound it till was loose enough to unwind by hand! It was apparant that who ever fitted the plugs prior to this didnt torque them to 20NM as it says you should!
Its becoming more apparant that this is not as simple a solution as I expected!
Guessing from this im looking at what could be an ideal time to just have the engine refurbed seen as it needs splitting now anyway!?
-
It might be best mate if swarf is in there it could explain alot of issues you have :lipsrsealed:
I would take sump off aswell and inspect for bits

Well was having a browse on here and there is a company that do body repairs and resto, so if could time having the engine out etc with them redoing that could work out nicely, there is a bit of rust around the filler and the battery tray isnt in cracking conidtion lol
Well so much for a nice easy lesson on cars, I just gone for the baptism of fire aproach
-
So on that note anyone know any good engine places in the Norfolk (kings lynn) area.....

Don't worry we've all been there with old purchases, most of us just booggle, but some actually do it the right way and restore to former glory!
Don't give up on her it will come true in the end!
-
Aye, the aim was to restore her to, as you say former glory, I just didnt expect to be doing less then 2 weeks after buying.
Guess better start looking at gutting and stripping her to go get chopped and restored while the engine goes away and gets stripped polished and returned to the nice little lump it was 20 years ago......bye bye to a lot of my budget for the other car.
-
As for head work I've PM'ed you mate!
-
I still need a new starter motor as it wont start convincingly....sometimes taking a bit of convincing BUT it does start! I changed the fuel pump relay and what do you know were away.
