Title: New Tyres
Post by: Yahhoo on 11 February 2012, 15:54
Hi all

After reading some reviews, I decided to get the goodyear eagle assymetric 2 on all four wheels on my gti. All seems good and the tyres looks great but I seem to been getting wheel spin more than before. Is this normal? This is both when I'm starting from stationary and even when the car is in motion. Is there a while I'll have to wait before I will get some more grip!

Also, can u let me know the ideal psi on the tyres.

Thanks all for help

What did you have before hand?

What are your pressures? If you wheel spinning a lot drop them down.

Plus the roads are really cold and grit won't work below -9

I sometimes have 36 front and 32 rear sometimes I have 32 front and 29 rear

Check your wheel alignment somewhere proper like a Protyre franchise.

Bear in mind a new tyre takes a few miles to bed in (100 miles even), to remove the finish from the moulds.

Also if its a sporty/summer tyre it will be off its optimum performance temperature in winter, so may be down on grip.

+1 , the tyres need to be bed in which which is even more difficult then usual considering the current climate.

new tyres + sub zero temps isn't going to work on summer tyres

As above really,

I have those tyres on my MK6 - they need plenty of heat even in the summer and are useless at below 7 oC IMHO

Great when warm though
