Title: The Hamster says hello
Post by: the_hamster on 10 February 2012, 23:24
Greetings all, thought I'd say hi as I dont actually own a Gti yet but I plan to change that very soon.

Currently have a 300+ bhp Impreza as a 2nd car but it was never my intention to get it. I had the cash in my hand for a MK4 Turbo about a year ago but got talked into getting an Impreza as i'd been with jap cars for about 8 years.

I used to have a 16v Corrado and loved it. Despite its faded pink paint, 273,000 miles and dented passenger door I loved every minute behind the wheel and only had to part with it when I lost my job. Anyway enough of memory lane..........

The plan is to sell (currently on ebay), swap/px my Impreza for a MK4 GTi Turbo 3 door and make it my own. I've modded every car ive owned and below are some pics of the last few of my chariots. Please dont flame me for posting non VAG related pics  :smug: I'll be looking for decent performance, handling and braking as I do the Nurburgring once a year and various trackdays.

Really looking forward to getting my hands on a gti and being part of a friendly community, something that is sadly lacking in the Impreza/jap scene as everyone there "has a bigger dad than yours" if you know what I mean.

Heres my current car and previous

Look forward to picking your brains and chatting some more :)

Welcome.

Nick

thanks Nick, it was the 1st MX6 I really went to town on. Its currently sitting outside my mates house and has been there for over 1 year as he bought it off me then lost his job. Luckily its parked out of the way as I hate seeing it sat there being unloved

I went to town on that car, theyre very cheap to tinker with but its a complete waste of time trying to get more power.

Mazdaspeed manifold is sexual!

If you're into your mazdas there's a thread on my MX5 here: http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=166636.0

Nick

I sold the fully rebuilt KLZE from my grey MX6 (above) to a guy who's fitting it in an MX5 with ITB's and megasquirt!!

I'll have a look at your thread Nick, nice to have something in common

Oh, if you think the mazdaspeed one was nice, check out the KLZE one I did a turbo conversion on!

Welcome the_hamster, look forward to reading about your future mods to your GTi when you get it.
Never been keen on jap cars, apart from MX5.
Which is the only one I've ever driven.
But the impreza does look rude.   (in a cool way)

Everyone says it looks mean!! Problem is, theyre an expensive car to mod and i've gone as far as I can with it without needing a 2 grand gearbox or 4 grand forged rebuild. Its got a few things need doing to it to make it mint and it was previously a cat c but I have extensive history/documentation of everything done on it in the last 3 years/20,000 miles and everything has been done professionally.

Good points are that its a very quick car, 0-100 in 10 seconds, it looks the part and just about all the major things you'd want done have been in the last 3 years. Bad bits are that the rear arches are starting to rust, I have replacement uprated shocked that need fitting, and its currently running 305bhp and 300 lb/ft but it could do with a map tweek to get it to 330/330.

I really dont want to spend any more money on it when I could sell it, get a golf and have some change left over. Work is quiet at the moment (i have my own business) so getting rid seemed the best option. I've got it on ebay and gumtree at the moment and i've been looking for a part ex with a 3 door gti turbo.

Nice car Ben, unfortunately my budget wont stretch to an Anni so I'll be on the lookout for an earlier 3 door and modding it over time.
