I have a mk 2 with a mk3 16v engine and gearbox. the gear leaver is already really short but has a huge amount of travel on it. the only short shifter i have come across so far is just a shorter lever, this is no good cos it would only be about 2 inches long if it was any shorter. any body know of any thing to do? does the mk3 usually have a long throw?

on my mk3 8v gti i modified the shift mechanism at the engine, just drilled a big new hole a little lower down where the weighted shift rod attaches. not too low or gear change will be stiff. you need to take the part off with a 13mm spanner.

I think i know where you mean but is there any chance of a picture just to be sure before i go drilling.
