Title: Winter tyres
Post by: gizzywizzy on 09 February 2012, 16:12
So it started snowing in the small village where I work at 2pm and lying quite heavily around 30 miinutes later, as I have a 6 mile jorney back home across the moors decided to jack it in for the day and head home.

By now the snow was 1" thick and had covered the road completely but with my Continental winters on I had absolutely no problems whatsoever even up and down the twisty gradients of the Pickering to Whitby road.  My colleague did not fare so well as she has no winter tyres on her car and slipped and slid most of the way home.

So thank you winter tyres you did me a great service today and got me through some quite nasty snowfall, which incidentally is still falling even here in Whitby close to the sea.  All I can say is thank god it's my day off tomorrow and to anyone considering the benefits of winter wellies for your Golf don't hesitate they will make all the difference and Continental TS830p's are the dogs danglies.

Glad they gave you a safe journey home....

As of yet there's be no snow fall here....we're normally one of the last places to get it, or we miss out altogether...

Thanks, the snow is supposedly heading south overnight, whether it will reach as far south as Bournemouth is debatable.  Good luck.

We had freezing rain here this morning, ie - it was freezing to sheet ice as it hit the ground. My winters were a godsend. Idiots were still flying past at over 70mph totally oblivious until they came to stop at the roundabout

I can only agree with you re the winter tyres.

I was out at 5am this morning (-5C) for a days walking and photography(not much of the latter due to pure light/weather) and we were at the top of Roseberry Topping at 9am then travelled down to Reivaulx Abbey and then onto Castle Howard - lots of snow and ice and felt safe and confident the whole journey (My friend who went with me has an Audi TT on summer tyres and he commented that he wouldn't have been able to drive on some of the roads we'd been on today)

You certainly got around a bit today.  I love Roseberry Topping great for walking the dog,  may  go tomorrow in the knowledge that I shall be safe and sound with my winter rubber.
