Title: Do i need a new rear caliper ?
Post by: gm8 on 09 February 2012, 13:19
I replaced my rear discs/pads the other day. In the past my o/s rear caliper gave me grief , the lever the operates the handbrake would not fully release. Now I have the same prob again. The piston seems fine , it wound back in normally , but the handbrake lever is stiff and wont really come back when i release the handbrake. I coated in wd40 and moved it about with mole grips etc. Is this part serviceable or do I need a new caliper ?

If the caliper is seizing up it is better in the long run to just replace it.

turned out to be the cables actually. After I got the cable off the lever was free and moved to the stop with ease. I spent ages cleaning/lubing the cable and hen re adjusted it all (new cable would be ideal but I needed to fix it there and then) now its all sorted and will replace cables asap.

The cable is inside a nylon sleeve which breaks down over time and cause the cable to jam. Think I bought a pair of cable of ebay for -£30, pretty easy to fit.
