Title: Mk3 gti 1995 8v non start HELP!!!!!!

Hi, yet again another problem with the golf drove home from work one night parked car on drive went out next day very poor on starting after about 2 mins of keep trying the key it will fire up? If pull away straight away it will stall, but if leave it 5 mins idling it was fine however last night it got terrible started got warm then wouldn't restart when it did run it reved up ok apart from a little pop when let off throttle like a backfire? All spark and fuel are fine can anyone please give me a few ideas to try, cheap to fix ideas I like :)

Same thing is up with my car mate vag come said it was the crank sensor but i havent fitted it yet, have a look around the sensor and see if any wires are exposed etc il update later if it sorts it!

Thanks mate, seems like It fires as let go of key, at first I thought maybe temp sensor but now heading towards a bigger fault

Seems i got sent the wrong sensor! So orderd another one, my fault was the exact same as yours though mate i think it will be the crank sensor

Is yours a early model aswel? With a dizzy cap? Managed to get it started today missed like a pig and then stalled up the road took me ages to get it home, was thinking maybe a stuck open injector? As stinks of fuel will get it looked at this week by a friend in a garage he's bit of a old skool dub bloke so fingers crossed this may shed a bit of light

What was the problem with yours? Tell me it didn't cost a arm and a leg?

No doubt ignition related, coil, HT leads ect.

Well crank sensor was done today wires all exposed very dodgy so replaced it started up just the same few swear words later I have ordered a temp sensor, leads and plugs have been replaced good spark at dizzy cap, fingers crossed on the temp sensor

At last the problem has been found crank sensor was in very bad condition so replaced that also temp sensor idle is fine now but when trying to full rev the car still hesitates after scratching my head for half hour I could smell a bad smell looked under car and back of the cat was glowing so after all this it's just a simple job of replacing the blocked cat, thanks for every1s help
