Does anybody know if you can do the valve stem oil seals without taking off the head? Or does anybody know where i can get them done for a good price thanks
-
In stoke on trent area
-
head will need taking off
-
Its possible to do it with the head on, but difficult. You need a tool to stop the valves dropping.

Can be done with compressed air.

Get one of these
(http://lextreme.com/valve/vs_04.jpg)
Screw it into your sparkplug hole on the pot your working on.Get the piston to tdc and apply 80-90psi of air. This will pressurize the cylinder and hold your valve in place.
Simples

Don't the valves rest on the top of the pistons if they at TDC?

Yes but it is usually too far of a drop to be able to lift the valve up enough to get the collets on.

I'm just thinking back my Ford days

Anyone would think you drove a Honda.

May sound silly but is the car overfilled with oil? Even a touch over can cause it to smoke as you described i did it few years back. Worth a check.
