Title: taken off the road after just 19 days!
Post by: truckerash on 07 February 2012, 19:24
Well, after just 19 days of pure enjoyment, my lovely new GTI is now "confined to barracks" with a nasty little problem
On Thursday 26th Jan (just 12 days old), I noticed a high pitched "squealing" noise when I was driving. When idling, there was no noise.
On Thursday 2nd Feb, I dropped it off at the dealer. A day later they rang to tell me it was the "vacumn diaphram" and it would be ready that very same day  That afternoon they rang again to say the problem was still there after the roadtest so they wanted to keep the car over the weekend and fit a new "throttle flap" on Monday/Tuesday
I rang today (Tuesday 7th) to ask of progress.
"I'm afraid its bad news" the lovely lady politely told me....."we couldnt cure the problem and our chief technician has spoken to Germany and they say you will need a new "water pump"
Even worse news then followed......"And it's on back order until NEXT WEEK"!!!!!

Now I know the weather has been bad and I wasn't tooo bothered that the car was off the road during the snow. And they have kindly loaned me a 1.2 diesel polo  :embarassed: but come on VW......2 weeks off the road? And its only done 400 miles? Have I got a Friday car?

Tell them it's ridiculous.  Car is away being fixed longer than you've had it!  No harm is asking if they'll add any optional extras whilst they've got it, as an act of good will.

A water pump failure after 400 miles!!!!
Unbelievable, but then I suppose it happens! Lets hope it's sorted soon as.

Suppose I could ask for "another" full tank of petrol. They gave me one when I took delivery, now another.....at this rate they'll be filling it up for life! LMAO

Unlucky     I hope it's back soon all fixed and no more problems.

Faults like this do seem to occur within the first month or so.

Two weeks is a long time to wait though, with only a Polo as recompense   :embarassed:  ... you could try and complain politely and see if they will give you a free 1st service

If you kicked off enough they'd probably give you the three year servicing pack! Gutted for you mate, but I'm sure they'll sort it.

I feel your pain mate, i took my gti back to the dealers after about 6 months with what i thought was a ticking noise coming from the engine bay. the technician took a look, told me it was probably a solinoid and that it was nothing to worry about.
i put up with it for a month, got fed up with it and took it back again. the same technician took it in for a closer look and gave me a 1.2 polo to run around with whilst they were looking at mine. they came back to me after a few days telling me that there was a problem with the forth cylinder and they would probably have to replace the cylinder head. a few days later they contacted me again saying that they had spoken to the technicians in germany and they reccomended that the car had a new engine and the old engine should be sent to them for testing. all in all they had my car for a month and i got mine back with a brand new engine. touch wood its been good since then... a little off putting though and very annoying.

It's back !  And not before time.....but earlier than expected as I was told "at least" another week

Jobs done; 1. replace throttle body, 2. replace intake mainfold with runner sensor, 3. replace water pump.

And I got the gear knob upgraded too, which was why it went in, in the first place.

As a "gesture of goodwill", it was washed and filled with super unleaded so good for a quick piccy on way home.
Thank you VW

Excellent! ED30(?) knob looks spot on, had an ED30 manual knob in my previous mk6 and it is so much nicer than the standard item.
Those wheels look so much better than they do on the 35 too, they look a little lost next to the bulbous bumper jowls and bigger side skirts on the ED. Good work and glad to see the car is back working properly and that you had good dealer service.

Cheers pal;  I spotted the knob on an ED35 photo. Didnt realise they were already around before. It was only because I kept on at dealer that I got a wash and fuel. If I hadnt of said anything, neither would they

Damn right they won't, but you have a right to complain, in a nice way obviously, but you had just handed over £££££ to them for something that after 2 weeks had to go back!

But as said, it happens, when I worked at seat we had an LCR come back with a mystery fault after 300 miles.

So a wash an tank is the least they can do!

But that car does look lovely, the MK6 is finally starting to grow on me!
