Title: Clutch upgrade
Post by: bobbarley on 06 February 2012, 23:29
For anyone that has upgraded their clutch to the G60 + VR6 alternative, did you find a massive difference doing so?  Also, worth doing even if your clutch hasn't really gone, if it's at a good price?

Not worth doing unless yours is slipping IMO however if you are keeping the car and can get the kit cheap may be worth getting.

I love my set up nice and light

There was someone on here who didn't like it - you do lose a bit of feel as the DM flywheel cushions the drive to the gearbox so no matter how you change gear its always smooth.

Everyone else ive known loves it

as your'e a family man now, i wouldn't get it too lightened...

revvs will drop quicker... MAY be a pain in traffic?

dont quote me on that

He isn't getting it lightened?    Just the standard G60 flywheel.

Well, I can get a kit veeery cheap.  Apparently the G60/VR6 combination lasts pretty much forever?

apparently so, no more needing a new flywheel..... if its that cheap i'd go for it....

i've just had mine done, pedal feels ok but I dont think its been fitted well so i'll be taking it off and doing it myself.

Funnily, it's the accelerator I have trouble with, not the clutch.  I damaged my right foot a few years ago, so after an hour or two of driving pushing the accelerator down really hurts.  Wish I could make that pedal lighter.

One this i will say is dont get an luk vr6 clutch if you intend to tune your car. I could only get an luk at the time so stuck it in and 3-4 months down the line its slipping. Go for a sachs vr6 clutch

Just out of interest have you ordered your kit from techniclutch on the bay? Got my eye on the same setup, think thats how much they want too.
Tbh can't believe how cheap it is especially with new flywheel! That's the only bit I'm not sure about, do you think it will be a oe VAG flywheel at that price?!
Only ever heard good things about this setup too, seems the only issues arise from poor installation or failing clutches(LUK normally).

The VR6 clutch is no different to the 16V ABF clutch..BTW.

Yeah that's the one, you can't go wrong for £165, it's Sachs and the seller has a lot of good feedback!

i got the same one from techniclutch on ebay felt loads lighter after but 6 months later it just feels normal but maybe i just got used to it

i did  have an annoying squeek when setting off in 1st but ive just yesterday i had to have a broken dog bone mount changed and the squeek is gone so im guessing they broke the bolt on the mount when they fitted the clutch and didnt bother to replace it grrr
i havent gained much idle rattle from the conversion either if i hadnt owned it before the conversion i wouldnt know any difference

Had both Sachs side by side and measured and there is no difference...Sorry theres two extra rivits on the outer pressure plate.
