Is it a hatchback?

If so, you might want to rope a mate in to help. Extra pair of hands and all that.

The gas struts are held on with a metal clip over the plastic ends. Use a screwdriver to lever this off and the strut should pop off the ball joint.

Remove the side-side trim at the back of the car along the roof by pulling it downwards. You should then be able to drop the headlining slightly, and this will expose the hinge mounting. Undo the bolts and away comes the tailgate.

Small things like water pipe to wiper, wiring to wiper and lights, air hose to boot lock.
