Title: alarm questions ?
Post by: clancy on 06 February 2012, 15:15
hi, did the mk3 gti come with an alarm and central locking as standard? and in what way was it supposed to work ?

just got my mk3 and the alarm seems a pain in the ass. press the button and sometimes all the doors lock, sometimes they dont. sometimes the imobaliser is still on after turning the key and sometimes its not.

past few times i used the car the doors wont lock, alarm turns on. then whatever i do (alarm on or off) when i try and manually lock the doors the alarm goes off and the button wont turn it off.

any ideas ? :s hate alarms.

Central locking on all. Immobiliser from 95 onwards. Alarm was an optional extra I believe, and considering the oldest ones are getting on for 20 years old now, its likely to be on its last legs if it is an OE fitted original alarm. Most have aftermarket ones fitted at some stage of their lives, and all to varying degrees of professional fitting, so could be duff wiring somewhere also.

ok well the central locking is not always working. when i press the button you can here a mech in the doors move but they dont lock all the time.

any idea what im meant to look for in the doors as for wiring etc ? something might be loose i suppose.

Probs a loose air line. They're fed from the pump by the drivers side rear light cluster. Trace the hoses, but its probs around the connector in the door shut as thats the most common place for them to go.
