Title: Windscreen
Post by: xtetx on 05 February 2012, 12:52
Alreet,

Anybody know the average price of a mk4 windscreen?
This weather owes me 2 front tyres and turned a tiny chip to a crack! My windscreen excess is 75quid!

About £300 at autoglass as a guess (Going on past experience!) if you pay for it yourself - ring them for a  price though

There will be smaller company's that can do it for £120 fitted but its a no brainer if your excess is £75

autoglass are a rip off, i had a chip in my windscreen (didnt have windscreen cover on insurance) rang them and they said theyd try and fix it for £120, but chances are it would make the window crack and then they would charge £100 for trying to fix it plus £450 for a new windscreen fitted.

rang up a mate who had just set up his own buisness, he said £20 and he will try fix it, if it cracks he woent charge for the fixing and will just fit a new windscreen for £100.

i know it was at mates rates but he didnt knok much off, he said normally he charges £30 for a chip fix and would of charged about £120-130 for the window fitted if i needed it and didnt know him.

so ring around smaller places if you can.

and if your in the north east pm me and ill see if he will come have a look at your car and possibly fit a new windscreen

but if your 'mates rates' are £100 and the OP's excess is £75.... whats the point of him paying more?
