I have ordered a GTD with 18 Charleston Shadows, Leather (now standard), parking sensors, storage pack and Xenons. I have gone for red as I had a MK1 GTi in red many years ago (my all time, best car until the engine finally died back in the early '90's). I was going to order cruise control but the factory option is more expensive than the retro fit. I've seen photo of the MK7 and it looks like a French car! I ordered the car just before Xmas and am expecting it for the new reg in march (the dealer says its being built this week). Got about 10% discount.
I'm new to the forum so Hi everyone.

P.S. is the Autoglym worth it at £399. Am I better just to put a good layer of polish on when it arrives?
-
Welcome, and nice colour/spec combination.
I had a much loved mk1 many many years ago too.
The Autoglym isn't worth that amount of money, no. If you get it thrown in then fair enough, I've had dealers asking whether my car has ever had it done when getting part ex prices but that's about it. If you're going to keep the car a good few years then it's not going to be worth anything to you or the dealer you're trading it to.
A good professional detailer will do a much better job for about half that amount or possibly a lot less. Or you can buy the Autoglym kits on ebay for not much and do it yourself.

Steve - That makes sense. They must be making a batch of GTDs at the moment. Let me know when you hear more info from the dealer and I'll do the same....

Hey Cliff, Good news my car has been built and is currently being shipped...my dealer says they should receive it in about 2-3wks time so looks good for beginning of march for pick up....
-
Mines still showing as being built
Fingers crossed for march!

When did you last check? Im sure if phone your dealer at the end of the week or next Monday it will show its been built....
I spoke to my dealer last Monday who said my car was due to be built, then phoned him a week later(today) and he said it was built and being readied to be shipped....that's why I reckon if you phone a week today you will have good news...
-
I rang today. They said to ring back in a week so your probably right!
-
Cool, let us know how you get on...

Here an update on how my new GTD is getting on. The build was finished two weeks ago. For the last two weeks it has been waiting to be shipped. The last news (today) is it is 'at the port of exit and released to go on ship' according to the dealer. It seems to be stuck along with many others at the port of exit.
I am also frustrated there is not an 'online' tracking option or a 'factory collection' option like Porsche do. You can watch your car being built in the factory and then drive it home!
Steve and a few others from the forum have suggested I get onto VW customer services and complain about the long wait at the port. I am going to do this on Monday. However, I've not waited as long as some others e.g. I only ordered the car at Christmas....
I have decided to 'retro fit' Cruise control before delivery. £188 for the retrofit is a lot cheaper than the factory option and comes with a three year warrantee! :smug:.. However, this should really be standard on a car of this price (e.g. its standard on the Golf Match).

PM'd you mate...
