Title: Can't unlock car by pressing twice on unlock button on remote
Post by: Smoothyworld on 04 February 2012, 16:23
No doubt you have all heard this one a few times, but I can't get a conclusive answer to this one.

Car is VW Golf 1.8 Turbo Mk4 GTI, registered 2001.

Normally double-pressing the "unlock" button on the remote will unlock all doors.  However, since this morning (on the second and subsequent times I tried to unlock all doors remotely) this method doesn't work any more.  Nor does locking car without turning on the alarm (double-pressing the "lock" button on remote).

Everything else works, I can unlock car remotely (just driver's side door), I can use key on driver's door lock to unlock and lock all doors.

One thing I noticed is that when I started my car this morning, the engine turned over slightly slower than usual and the locks on all the doors made a small clinking sound (without changing state) but the car started normally. Could the cold be affecting the battery in such a way that there's less power (current?) at the moment of ignition which causes the CPU storing the appropriate remote locking setting to reset?  (I'm not an expert by any means so forgive me if that makes little sense :D ).

I had this problem after my battery went flat.

I simply disconnected the battery for 30 seconds, then reconnected it.

Have you dropped the fob by any chance?
