Could it be the cold weather ? My car always sits perfectly at 90 were on motorway now and it's sitting below and is going even lower if I turn heater on :( hope it's cos it's -1.5

It should sit at 90 no matter what the temperature so if its going below its either the temp sensor somewhere in your water system (not sure where on mk4) or the thermostat is stuck open this could all be because of the cold weather. If its your temp sensor gone you should be able to feel lack of performance and also lower mpg slightly hope this helps

Temp sender or water pump in trouble.
