Before my remap my car was running like a dog, cutting power, boost coming in then out. Rtech diagnosed the maf as faulty. So got a new one from vw (£160!) All fitted. Since the car seems a little laggy, not as smooth and doesnt like cold morning starts, it cuts out. So after speaking to rtech again they said unplug maf and see what happens. Car now runs better, smoother etc so went back to vw and they said they need to test it and if its not maf they will charge me 120 for the diagnosis! Now i'm fairly sure it must be maf but havnt got much to back it up data wise, what do I do?!

you need someone to log the data from the MAF, or even better try a known working MAF
-
was gonna say if u know any 1 with a mk4 u could try there maf

Is it possible that a brand new genuine maf is faulty? I back to back tested with maf on and then maf off. With maf on my car, went to overtake and I just lost all power, lumpy idle, had to pull over and scanned with code reader, 17743. Cleared code, unplugged maf everythings right as rain!

Won't you have to reset engine adaptions if new MAF fitted?? Reset mine when i fitted new MAF to mine.

is it not just a case of fit new one, plug in and off you go?

you can just drive it, the ECU will learn to adapt over a few miles

Correct as Wez said it will self learn, just clear all the old codes.

i just plugged it in and it seemed quite laggy, made the boost come in really heavy and didnt like cold mornings. Ever since its been unplugged its been fine! But i'm not risking £120. Just need to try someone elses maf. Bloody snow!
