Title: Today has been one of those days - dead decat pics inside
Post by: Wazzzer on 03 February 2012, 19:08
Booked in on my mates ramps to get the decat taken off and the Miltek sports cat fitted :afro:

Then the dreaded phonecall

"cat is on mate but the flexi is knackered, it's pissing out"

"Great... ok fit the decat back on for now"

"Yeah about the decat, I think you need to have a look at it"

So off I go after work to take a look, and I couldn't believe it. The flexi inside the decat has unwound itself and has left probably a 1.5" gap in the middle

Now I know the gases are going to get past the flexi wires but it's still gonna be some sort of restriction. Consequently, I can't sell it to Nav like that so naturally he's had his money back.

The decat is back on for now and my mate took a bit of pity on me and only charged me £20 for his time but now I'm gonna have to get a new flexi added into the Miltek ASAP as the MOT is in 2 weeks! I'm hoping to get it done before the RR day next Saturday and my mate has already said he will keep Friday evening free as he just knows I'll need it done that evening lol

To top it all off I get home and the oldest has chicken pox too

Cars eh?

Rich yeah it is BUT I have had a good look at where it was blowing from and there is no evidence of soot there so my guess is it was broken while being taken off. Still doesn't help me at he mo

It can be replaced but I don't think it can be repaired Rich. Will give a place local to me a shout tomorrow (if they're open) and see what price they quote :-(

isnt the miltek not life time garanteed?

Yes but only to the original buyer

I'm gonna cheer myself up tomorrow and bin the charcoal cannister

Will you still pass your mot with it removed?

No, this was the reason I wanted the Miltek; I was fed up trying to find a friendly MOT station to get it done with the decat fitted

The place I wanted to take it to is shut today, might try and get down there on Monday evening if I can make it there from work in time

bummer mate...

what i have done with my system is i cut the orginal cat out the decat and my mate who owns a stainless exhaust place made me a drop out cat so i leave my 3" down pipe on and when i mot my car six bolts and i take out the pipe and bolt in my cat take me five mins to change
Title: Re: Today has been one of those days...
Post by: Wazzzer on 05 February 2012, 09:20
well with all this messing about I might end up doing something like that

Either way I need a new downpipe as the decat flexi has collapsed

Post by: Wazzzer on 06 February 2012, 19:09
Got in contact with the exhaust place about getting the flexi replaced and it's booked in for Weds. They want the downpipe on the car to make sure it fits the car properly which makes sense so my mate is putting it back on tomorrow. In hindsight I should have told him to leave it on last week

The guy I bought it from is meeting me halfway with the cost apparently, just waiting for him to wire me the money, might give him a gentle reminder in a mo :lipsrsealed:

it's all good  The bloke at the garage has done a top job, cost £65 to supply and fit the flexi which I thought was very reasonable

Here's some pics of the dead decat

It would be if you cut all the wire out the way lol

It's so well made (apart from obvious) it seems a shame to chuck it up the scrapyard

Get a new flexi welded into it and sell it?
Title: Re: Today has been one of those days - dead decat pics inside
Post by: Wazzzer on 08 February 2012, 21:47
It's just cost me £65 to get the flexi done on the Miltek, I'd hardly make any money on it. If someone wants the decat they are welcome to it

Ok mate, give me over the weekend to get it wrapped up and I'll leave it up my parents, I can leave it in the garden.

Unless you know someone going to the RR day at JKM on the weekend?

If it falls through let me know I'll have it. A garage by me charged £35 to weld a new flexi into a DC sports manifold for an Ep3 that's why I thought it might be worth doing.
