Title: F*&(^(&^ freezing weather.
Post by: scarr89 on 03 February 2012, 14:45
Yes my hose is frozen. Even the sprayer end has cracked where the water inside it expanded! I haven't had a chance to clean in the past 2 weeks after doing nearly 800miles and it looks awful...I'm gutted I can't clean it, especially as I'm going to Rtech next weekend!

Its worse when you think you can outsmart the weather like me. I keep the hose and bits inside the garage - so I can use them. But after foaming the car, the foam freezes to the paintwork within minutes.

Then the water that does make it to the floor, freezes and creates a car wash/ice rink.

Its annoying that Winter is the time you need to clean your car the most and its bloody hard work.

I took hose unit off the wall, we have one of those hose reel thingys, and am going to let it thaw out then try again tomorrow!

Your story sounds far worse than mine!!

i always syphon my wall hose reel in winter as mine always used to freeze up.

just hang it on the wall and pull it out so the end is on the floor and open the nozzle and it will soon drain out.

my pressure washer is now inside... its too risky to let it freeze up even though it does have metal innards instead of plastic like karcher

my hoses took about 20 mins to defrost when I was working in -2 the other day

but then as soon as I started working on a car it made things a little bit bad...

Had this same problem a couple of weeks ago, was fun skating round the car trying not make a tit of myself in front of the customer.

Unlucky Guy!!

I won the battle today! Poured boiling water all over the tap, with the hose all thawed over night and in +3 degrees I had my victory and cleaned her!!  So pleased.

Driving me mad at the minute not being able to do much cleaning.
To aid in hose emptying i tried blowing it out with the airline, but the compressor decided to freeze the airlines.Took the regulator off and it only worked for a second or two.
In the end i dropped the missus washing line down through the bedroom window.Tied the hose to one and and ran back upstairs and lifted it up to drain the water remnants out.

I got funny looks off the neighbours but hey ho it worked.

But then my good lady decided her MK4 was looking a little dirty after our trip to Whitby and washed it........by taking it to the Kosovans down the road!!!!
Bare in mind a month ago i spent a solid few days correcting the paintwork and removing all the swirl marks.
Ive now got to do it all again  FML!

There was silence for a good 2 days in our house after that incident.

To be honest she normally leaves all the cars well alone but after hearing me complain about how filthy it was for 3 days she thought she would be helpful!
Damn woman, just wait till I'm helpful and turn all her posh underwear purple!
