I picked B
Not worth it mate.
I saw a gti 8v engine and gearbox sell on eBay for £50, infact it had zero bids.
So for the cost only a engine conversion is worth it.
If you don't want to do that because of insurance. Then why spent £££'s on a engine that will be slower than a gti and then paying more on insurance because of a tuned engine?
Simple answer is save ya money pal for a faster car
-
stick it on a trailer and pull it with a volvo t5, then it will be quicker
-
I voted A
Sell it and buy something quicker.

Not worth even servicing those engines  As Tweed said, for the cost of some plugs, new oil and filter you can pick up a used gti 8v engine.

:laugh:Filter and stainless exhaust system plus de-cat. but it probs wont make much of a difference. like the rest of them said, wait until you can afford a faster car or put a 2.0 8v in it. until then just cruiz with your music cranked up! you dont need to go fast to have a good time! ..................................fast is good tho!

pick routes that have lots of downhills

Which engine is in it? Mines the 100bhp version which is a tall block like the gtis but has a crossflow head like the mk4s. Bottom end swap would help I bet
-
I've got a 1.6 8v and this is what I'm currently doing to make it faster.
Selling it and buying a gti 2ltr 16v
Reckon it'll be much faster then
-
Keep it as it is and invest in a track toy
-
buy a gti???
-
your brave, i'll give you that lol.
So many threads about this, must be hundreds.
The easiest way is either sell it and buy something quicker e.g. 1.8t
OR engine swap but that's alot of work and money.

Going by the votes on the poll, I'd say your best option would be A

I reckon A. Stick a rocket on the back and send it down a ski slope for topgear laughs too. Mind you, it's so heavy it will probably dig in before it gets to the end, and flop off at the bottom!
-
Drive it off a cliff

we're all so helping arn't we tbh mate just put a nice air filter and an exhaust on it because thats as far as a 1.6 will go or inless you want to spends thousands you could blue print the engine or get a tsr lump installed its how far your budget will take you tbh
