Title: Replacing sill covers on a Mk III
Post by: Hattie on 19 May 2005, 09:59

Anyone got any advice for me?

The plastic sill cover on the Moo is catching the driver's door every time I open it. I have examined the offending item and it doesn't look like there is any solution bar a complete replacement. There appears to be a little bit of rust behind the cover. Anyone got any idea how much of a job this is likely to be and whether I can safely let my trustworthy local garage sort it or if I will have give in and go to the VW main dealer.

MK3  gti plastics fall off in the night. Problem is getting them back on without breaking the clips. I have tried an gave up and bought new ones from VW. The bit your talking about is I think a metal strip which clips to plascs. the strip has a ringe holding it in but as time goes by it rusts and breaks. You can try gueing it but if you want it to look right just get a new one from VW. I think you will find they are not that dear.

Thanks Mark. I'll get my local garage to order one in for me. It's way past the glue stage!
