So getting some 17in wheels of a mate but got no tires on. So will any 17in fit eg 225 215 I know I can very on the profile here's a pic of wheels if that helps (http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j412/dam088888/IMAG0047.jpg)

225 / 45 / 17 tyres.

entirely depends on how wide the alloys are.

and from the width you then work out the profile

chances are that it will be 225/45/17

Why not just read what they were on the ones in the pic? And then get the same..
