Title: Battery moving in engine bay...any bright ideas on how to secure it?

I recently changed the battery on my MKIII and connected it up just fine, cranks up a treat now.

The only problem is the lip at the base of the battery seems too high for the metal securing plate to fit on, hence the battery can now move on the base plate reasonably freely which clealry isn't great for cornering  :undecided:

I'm sure it's the correct battery (Type 075) so I need some ideas on how best to secure it.

Anyone?

I'm sure you can flip the securing plate in case of this.
Or big cable ties

Could you use a small piece of metal with a hole in the middle or some washers to space the bracket a bit.

Bolts pretty long anyway.

As long as the lip on the base of the battery goes into the recess on the otherside of the tray of course.

Yellow is the bracket, what about putting a spacer underneath, (silver on diagram) to move it up a bit?

Could use an old car mat or something, put it under the battery...
This would mean the battery is a bit higher, so tightening the metal securing plate will be easier,

and there will be a lot more friction between the battery and the thing you put the battery on, therefore the battery won't be moving anywhere. Hope that helps?

Cheers to everyone who replied.

Sounds like a combination of the above would be good.

The metal plate with the screw that is supposed to hold the battery down is almost flat on mine so perhaps that isn't the original part, the one on the diagram above looks like it has far more depth to it.

Anyhows, I'll put a sliced up car matt on the base plate for sure as that sounds like a good idea and try the mods suggested.

This seems to be a common problem. I just did mine last week. You need to push the bracket as hard as possible against the battery and do the bolt up, this at least worked for me.

Flipping the clamping plate usually resolves a wobbly battery.
