Title: vac pipe? i think
Post by: christomk3gti on 01 February 2012, 15:20
Just checking around the engine bay for leaky vac pipes...

Does anyone know what the small rubber pipe (with braided material around it) which goes on the side of the Right hand side of the Throttle body and joins some kind of cylinder just below it??? the pipe it self is only about 10cm long.

I' noticed mine was split at the joint and the rubber has either perished or is blocked with black crap.

I've managed to refit the same pipe, what exactly is this for??

Cheers.

get some pics up, though an easy way to tell if its a vac pipe is pull it off and see if its sucking or blowing :P

I'm pretty sure it joins the Idle Stabilization Valve (ISV) to the throttle body/manifold.

Because this pipe is bunged up with crap could this be a problem for a really crap idle and stalling issue??

Cant get any pics up, lost my cable to transfer pics to laptop...
BUT - if u pop ur bonnet on a AGG 8v GTI u will see the pipe. its the only one with material braided around a rubber hose (ovbiously the rubber hose is hidden inside the braided material)

Urgent.... thanks

Sounds like the vac line for the fuel pressure valve, vacuum to keep the pressure up in the fuel rail

I cant remember what my 8v engine looked like but what ben says does ring a bell with the braided hose, I remember vaguely as I removed this hose and used it on the new engine

ok i'll remove it and put in a temporary pipe in its place and give it a whirl. coz mine has broken down and think the rubber pipe is blocked.

cheers

whats the issue, idle and stalling? have you cleaned the throttle body?

well this afternoon i changed my spark plugs.... no change.

I decided to pull of the oil breather pipe that fit on the air intake just beside the throttle body.... It looked abit gunked up..
I had abit of carb cleaner so i started the car (idle was lumpy).... revved the car using the lever and sprayed loads of carb cleaner in the hole beside the throttle body/air intake.... car spluttered abit then started to idle fine..... more carb cleaner again.... put the breather pipe back on and the idle was perfect....

Went for a spin and have now a perfect idle and no cutting out issues anymore

Gunna strip down the throttle body and inlet manifold and give it a good clean along with the breather pipes at the weekend. then this should solve it in the long term.

Cheers guyz

as for that vac pipe, i took it off and cleaned it out and put it back on, it didnt help the idle/cutting out issue but least i know its clean now.
