Title: Honda accord... talk to me.
Post by: cняis on 31 January 2012, 13:38
Our mk3 daily needs to go and we've perused the usual german suspects, most of which are overpriced...  :lipsrsealed: so we've been looking at various alternatives, #1 criteria is that it must be an estate.

Anyone had any experience of the 03-08 accord estate? Looking at a 2.4 i-vtec type-s as it suits our budget - sensible mileage, age and price. Our budget won't stretch to diesel. Parkers seem to rate it well

thoughts?

It's a Honda, what could possibly go wrong?

Other than the crankshaft pulley throwing a wobbly they are pretty bullet-proof engines.

I had a 55 plate Accord  saloon.  2.2 itdci executive HFT.  I didn't offer optional extras as it had everything as standard.

Fabulous car for motorway cruising, 55-60 mpg was a doddle.

My Uncle had the 2.4 vtec estate.  Used it for journeys between Cardiff and Dundee.  Didn't put a foot wrong.

Both get a big thumbs up from me.  For the price and the level of kit you get, you can't go wrong.

The EX HFT model is the one to get

My dad had a 55plate estate, engine was good but felt quite numb on the road.

No experience of the petrol, but if you can stretch to the 2.2 iCDTi it's a great engine.
a 65mph cruise can get you 65+ MPG in a BIG car, even an 80 cruise returns around 55MPG.
As for the car, great in general, lots of gadgets as standard on the EX too!
Love Hondas.... Am I allowed to say that here?

Thanks guys, pre 06 reg 2.4 petrols aren't too bad on tax either. Not worried about numb ride as I'm used to a mk3 daily  and I'll still have the mk2vr (when I can be bothered to put it back on the road).

Just have to convince the OH that it looks nice, she's not a fan of that rear end....

I've never liked the rear styling of them. They look far too heavy about the rear 3/4 to me.

Personally, I'd be looking at a late Passat B5.5 Estate.

Girlfriends parents have a 3.0 v6 accord coup, the only bits that have gone wrong was the exhaust fell off, (rubbers) fuel pump relay, tyres/pads. That's it. Oh and the lever found the seat,
Just a shame it's auto ,

Not 05 plate for 2.5k though...
