Title: New laptop help
Post by: R32UK on 31 January 2012, 11:46
Can someone provide a link to a decent laptop... I am thinking of upgrading in next few month and really need something that is not going to pause and freeze whilst working.  :undecided:

budget... around £1k please

Most of use is through web apps/large excel sheets/music + movie players.. so just your normal stuff but a decent enough screen to handle hi-def films also.

Also has to look cool

For that price, Try HP Envy. Whatever you choose, just make sure you uninstall all the bundled cra*p, or better still, do a fresh Windows install.

I've been doing the same mate Asus are really on top at the moment decent ram and graphics cards
I would look at streching the budget to about 1.2K and you should have everything you need as for HP they plan on selling there retail arm so not sure when the support will be over, but gratis to them they are well spec systems for money!

the graphics aren't up to much on that asus. It has a very dated tft screen and it looks a bit pony. This is nearer your original budget and is seriously powerful, has an hd led backlit lcd screen. If it's too big try the second link:

What about this: http://www.novatech.co.uk/laptop/range/nspire2450-blackedition.html (http://www.novatech.co.uk/laptop/range/nspire2450-blackedition.html)

I have one at the moment, battery life is around 5 hours, plays BF3 on high settings yet looks pretty professional :D

Do it mate, i use mine for Business and only recently had to have some kind of 'Virtual hard drive' or some sh!t set up to run a couple of windows only programs, they run better on my mac than they did on my PC

so much quicker an yes, touch wood, reliable as hell

Plus with Apple if anything goes tits you just walk into an apple store sit in front of a 'genius' of go DUUUURRRRRR an they fix it all for you!

Looks like an option.. although £2k for one seems a little steep when you can get a similar spec PC for around £1k  :undecided:

Hmm... i think I am swaying towards the dell xps 15z i7 with SSD for virtually the same price on the Dell site. Although have seen a few factory refurbs going for £999!! which is approx £450 off list price  :undecided:

They seem to be exactly the same as the mac books in terms of looks etc... just more powerful/ quicker with the ssd.  :nerd:

Yeah not the cheapest! Mines a 120GB OCZ Agility 3 for £115, got OS and programs on it and everything boots and runs a lot quicker! Is a very noticeable increase in performance!

I got one of these in the end due to having quite a small desk

http://accessories.euro.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=uk&l=en&s=dhs&cs=ukdhs1&sku=446765

along with this

http://accessories.euro.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=uk&l=en&s=dhs&cs=ukdhs1&sku=520-11049

to help reduce clutter on my desk.

Got them both for £150 through the business dell site. So essentially got the sound bar for free.
Screen is fantastic from the little I have used it so far.... but then that is coming from a 15" lappy screen

Was wondering because we bought a load of super slim 23" LEDs from Dell recently at a very good price

they have recently announced expected fall in turnover for the coming year and a profit warning.... that could have something to do with it!!

I would loved to have gone bigger and slimmer... but wasnt really justified since I now only have a small desk  :embarassed:

Although it should be great for when I hook it up to the 46" LED in zeee bedroom

Have not read all the replys but after working in a repair centre I would only use the laptop battery when you are on the go. Remove the battery and run it off the adaptor at home if you can.

The batts don't last long on these and most people kill them within a year.

Just my tip  :nerd:
