Title: Is someone trying to scam me?
Post by: Hartside on 30 January 2012, 07:44
Got an email last night from Paypal to say I had been paid £200 from the sale of an article on ebay. Went into my Paypal account and sure enough the £200 has been paid. The ebay sale has nowt to do with me at all, it's for a Pandora bracelet that seems to have sold at less than half the price you would expect.

I've written to Paypal but what do you reckon? Is it a scam whereby I return the money and they reclaim the original amount as well or am I being paranoid?

Sound gen mistake paypal have the access to view all transactions related to items bought or sold through them so they can see the wood from the trees! Just inform them you have it don't spend it as it will proberly get returned at some point.
At this stage its win win win you're not out of pocket just leave it in there you have done your duty

If you forward the £200 to my Paypal account, I'll take the risk of being scammed and get to the bottom of it for you.

This, hope you didn't click on a link or you'll be fleeced for a lot more than £200.

Have another look at the email.  Hover the cursor over the email address link and type here what is says.

Masking an email address link is easy.  Hovering the cursor over it should reveal its true identity.

Great advice , thanks lads!

I went in through my saved link which has Rapport on it, so I know it's the genuine Paypal site as I'm dead wary about email linkys as you've pointed out. I'll wait to get my reply from paypal before doing anything, but hopefully it's an honest mistake
