Title: Air bag Light
Post by: alzabal on 18 May 2005, 14:58
Hi

I got a garage to change a broken wiper lever on the steering column and now the air bag light won't go off for them is there anyway to reset the light? The light wasn't on before they changed the part.

Thanks

sounds like the airbag connections must have been disrupted (its quite a complex fitment) - I'd take the car back and complain. There's a coily thing (forget the name) which provides electrical connection to the wheel

If they're going to fix it, make sure they do it properly - and no just disconnect a light. Remember that an airbag light doesn't just mean the airbag won't deploy in an accident - it also means there is a chance of inadvertat deployment, which is a horrible experience, I can tell you!

The airbag unit is attached to the steering wheel with two screw (at the back), then you just disconnect the small thin white (or read) lead. nothing complex as far as I know. But sounds like they just haven't disconnected the battery 1st for 5 or 10 minutes before unplugging it, which then registers it with a fault.

Not sure how it's reset, but If the garage are unable to sort it, an airbag or auto electrical place should do it for not a lot, if you tell em whats happened.
