Title: Big Bumper 16v tip
Post by: Gambit on 25 September 2003, 09:09
if you have a late 16v (big bumper) with the newer larger airbox then you can make it sound a hell of a lot better if you remove the resonater tube from the airbox

to do this:-

simply remove the base of the airbox

you will then see a long black tube in the base of the air box that exits thru the front of the box

prise this whole tube out and exit out (takes a bit of force but eventually it'll come out

your then left with a nice whole in the front of the box

put the base back into place, and reconnect to the top

take it for a drive, you'll be amazed how much meatier your 16v sounds, especially when it comes on cam!!

Yep i did that one on my old 16v years ago, its amazing how restrictive the air intake is. Drill the box out too!  ;)

Don't forget if your gonna do that to leave the headlight plastic plate off. it normally fits behind the light to keep the noise down, also if your really good fit a hoover pipe to the hole mentioned above and then put it in the gap in the bumper by the towing eye.
