Following on from my post this morning about stalling (don't know if they are connected) - my 16v won't start this morning!!
It's trying to start, but is not catching at all - as if there is no fuel getting through. I've noticed that the last couple of mornings that the car has taken a bit longer to start, but it got there in the end. Now this!! Help!! What should i be checking first??
-
Had something similar before the rebuild and it was the distributor that was shagged. Another bad starting problem turned out to be the coil breaking down.
-
can u hear the fuel pump prime when u turn the ignition on? u need to check n see if you are getting a spark when turning over.
-
Excuse my ignorance, but what does prime mean?! I take it, i should be listening out for a noise near the fuel tank when the ignition is on?
-
when you turn the ignition to on, do u get a buzzing noise that lasts for about 2-3 secs?
-
Yes!
-
Right, got the the car started with a push start and it seems to be running ok. I'm gonna check the plugs and filters etc and hopefully it will be ok. Anything else i should be checking?
-
Changed filters, plugs and put some fuel cleaner in for good measure and she seems to be running fine!! Nice one!
Cheers!
-
did u change the fuel filter also yeah?
-
If you bumped it ok, and it now runs ok, this could mean it was just a weak battery. Do you do just short trips?
-
Battery is newish so it's not that.
Yes the fuel filter was changed! What a difference!! Highly recommended maintainence!!

Maybe there is a blockage in the fuel sytem. Give it a good blast to clear out any crap.
