Okay I'm average about 18MPS and should get 31MPS
I've rang customer service nothings wrong
I've rest Hub
Its ethernet pluged in
My sons PC hardwired just got 31MPS twice no problems!
I've tunred off
KIS
Malwarebytes
No affect
Using speed.net
Not sure where to start?
-
????
You just said you're son gets 31mbps? So everyone should surely?
-
I was testing if the line was okay his PC gets full speed, mine only gets 18odd?
His is usually wireless so took his PC and hardwired via ethernet in the bedroom.
I'm just stating I've ruled out the broadband connection Bob!
-
worth checking your network adapter for newer driver
-
I was thinking about that its a broadcom BCM5751A1
Driver Name b57xp32.sys Version 11.7.2.0 driver date 12/25/2008
Wierd thing everything was okay a day ago until I installed virgin backup storage program I've uninstalled now and ran cleaners still the same issue max out 18Mps?
-
Try uninstalling the application then benchmark the connection again.
-
Already did Bob plus ran scans and reg cleaner?
-
try a couple of different speed tests, never rely on one!

Funny man!
I've tried all those they don't work on cable only speed net hence I asked for specific links other than one on the GOOGLE list
-
well that was my polite answer, if you prefer i can give you the topher answer..
go and search for yourself lazy fooker
-
I prefer the direct answer
You don't think I've spent hours running speed tests on every MOFO google comes up with Speed net still comes up the best acurate result!
I'm just going to reinstall XP in the morning can't be arsed to msconfig reg search bollocks by the time I find out whats causing it reinstalling XP is going to be much quicker IMO. Fuc*kin Comps Back the stuff and PRESS DESTROY!
-
Spent a lot of time uninstalling re booting and most of the programs I thought was causing it made no difference so fresh install tomorrow! Been backing up loads before its done, not looking forward to doing TBF
-
Four days later its finally working like it should Top tip don't load net frame works out of order plus allways load your logitech anywhere mouse drivers before anything!
I hate Logitech's drivers everything conflicts without drivers the comp froze up trying to work out what it was and created an unstable loop! So simple so bad!
I never found what was eating my bandwidth but all is good now!
Only problem now is the Utorrent I've saved the 100giggs part file and wanted to know if I install Utorrent will it find the same part files?

By hardwired do you mean your son is connected to the router via ethernet cable?
And are you wireless?
-
If you are wireless check for other networks / devices using the same wireless channel if you experience a drop off in speed again, could be a conflict.
Google: 'Netstumbler'. This will tell you what other wireless networks are around you and which channel they are using.
-
Configed the router first, reset the lot!
No mine was the one hardwired to ethernet cable, sons runs off wireless!
I used his comp to run benchmarks for speed, he got over 31 everytime. (hardwired his into my router)
No devices were on when benchmarking still couldn't find out where 10mps disapeared to?
Ran hijack this
Ran malware bytes
Ran kis
Updated my broadband com driver nothing!
Started uninstalling every program to see which one causing the issues nothing!
Something was nicking my bandwidth without my knowledge?
I tried looking at services and Reg edits for unknown nothing quicker to reinstall XP in the end for me?
Ghost in the shell
Organisys I did a scan on the wireless dongle at my sons PC and nothing on the same channel!
Two things
Utorrent possible?
Virgin media backup storage program but I uninstalled both before retesting the speed and it was stuck at 18Mps

Hi guys the problem came back after installing Vuse?
Any boffins with port forwarding and throttling?
I did a system restore point on XP and its still the same?
Reset the router anyone think virgin are actually throttling the line?

I'd be inclined to tell you to check your duplex and MTU, they'll both cause speed drop offs, to a significant degree.
Also be sure to disable any other active network protocols on your NIC, eg QoS etc.
-
Also a traceroute isn't going to highlight any traffic management, but speedtest.net will show a slower line.
But virgin traffic management is meant to cease after 9.30pm.
Plug the other PC in with a wire too, then run iperf between the two, should show you if the issue is at the software level. Then repeat the test with the two PCs plugged into each other directly.

Hey Ben where to start mate I'm lost TBH
You think the comp has made adjustment via the torrent program which is causing this issue?
I need to know where to look and start from mate?
I'm thinking the Vuse program has changed the packets that I recieve to stop flooding? So when I go back to Speed.net the packets and limited and don't show the full speeds?
Okay I'll do it tomorrow need to sleep mate!
I'll report back!
-
MTU and duplex are set in the advanced settings of the NIC in device manager. The MTU should match that of your home hub
Eg 1500, 1476, 1420
Again, the duplex should match too as sometimes auto sense can go wrong. So it should be whatever your router is
Eg 100Mb
uTorrent shouldn't and doesn't mess with any of these settings, worse case is that it opened too many connections but a PC reboot and router reboot would solve that.
-
I don't know anything about Vuse I'm afraid.

Okay I'll do the comparisons on both comps tomorrow Ben I need to sleep mate!
Ben come this morning I got this!
Virgin media is throttling or something got reset after rebooting this morning?
Weird? Like you said I thought full speeds come back after 9.30PM?
