Title: Filthy Numberplate
Post by: Mr_F on 26 January 2012, 16:08
Ok so I "know a chap" who's done lots of miles in his golf over the winter and not cleaned her, his number plates almost completley obscured with dirt along with the rest of the back-end being complete filth.

anyone got any experience of having this on their car whilst stood next to it with an officer of the law?  Anything happen other than being told to clean it?

Really struggling to write this post without many a innuendo! apologies to the moderators this is a genuine question.

Basically trying to work out whether he should leave it dirty?

The one I'm looking at has the same density of dirt all over the plate as appears on the bottom middle letter of that example.

well to answer this question,

Sensible Head. - yep, cos with the high number of ANPR cameras etc that will flag up a non readable plate is it worth the hassle of getting tugged and a £60 fine.

Reality Head. - there aint no coppers on the streets these days, fcuk it leave it dirty

Is it worth any risk to just give it a wipe with a cloth?

Maybe his/her tax/mot/insurance ran out.

Because why on earth would you leave it dirty when it only take 20 seconds to wipe it?

Clean them unless he has something to hide?

Either way could risk being tugged if something's not quite right with the reg or it's un-readable.

All's pukka with the wheels, company job and all, just he's a high mileage chap and claims theres no point in washing it as its covered in motorway c**p within two days, seems to be spoiler related as the Accountant Bean Fiddler Bluemotion brigade don't have the same issue.

Cheers Chaps, think he's a stickler and will take a tug me thinks.  I for one will be donning a lamb on the end of my hand and giving her a good set of suds as Saturday looks set to be cold but clear.

I got pulled a couple of years ago on the M62 for a dirty number plate and fined £60. The copper was a right C about it as well. So yes clean it.
